My son said today, yesterday it went up 30 cents in one shot.  Wish I could comment.

I took a trip down to Detroit over the weekend. I can usually find a few bargain stations along the way. There were no bargains. ALL set at $4.99.

Monday, it went up to $5.20. Everywhere I checied. Price fixing.

Forget $6. My co workers are now thinking $7+ before Labor Day.

Funny, I haven't see gas stations around here (southeastern PA) charging different prices for cash and credit, though I know it's common in other areas.

Some supermarkets award loyalty points that can be converted to gas savings at their own pumps, or at specified third-party pumps.  Savings can be substantial, for example, up to $1.50 per gallon on fill-ups.  Some stores that do this: Giant, Stop & Shop, Tops.  Maybe Acme too; they used to, I'm not sure if they still do.

My personal technique is to drive to Delaware - I live in PA near the DE border - where gas can be $0.20 - $0.25 cheaper due to lower gas taxes.

You still can earn gas rewards points at Acme. And redeem the reward points at Exon or Mobil stations.

I use only ethanol free gas, so I'm not shopping for the cheapest & I'll add, NO, I will NOT turn off my AC.

PAIN AT THE PUMP: A Michigan county sheriff's office is aiming to resolve non-emergency calls by phone after blowing through its fuel budget due to high gas prices.

Wow, @MorningLover --  yet another example of the dangerous ripple effect of out-of-control gas prices-- this time affecting law enforcement, and the very safety of citizens.

Re: *GAS INCREASE* TIPS & HACKS

As much as we like to complain about our gas costs, I just went on a small road trip and was amazed at all the HUGE campers/travel trailers on the roads. Not only did I see very large ones, they were towing another car for local travel along with boats, ATVs, golf carts, etc. I don't see gas prices having any bearing on what Americans prefer to drive. I drive a very small compact car and feel like I'm in a Hotwheels vehicle on the road with all the big jacked up pickups. Not knocking the love for big vehicles, just making a statement. My neighbor has a very big truck and says it costs around $170 to fill it up. Ah, America's love affair with the big vehicles.

Good luck with that since the Admin wants to increase ethanol in gas.

Re: *GAS INCREASE* TIPS & HACKS

The facts on ethanol:

Gas currently has about 10% ethanol added

During the months of June through September, regulations disallow additional ethanol added to fuel because ethanol is a producer of smog, and smog and hot weather and lungs aren't a good combo

Those regulations are being relaxed from June 1 to September 15, allowing for up to 15% ethanol added, despite the environmental impact, in hopes of saving about 10¢ a gallon

I'm not sure how propagandists are spinning this, but it appears to be a negative talking point, when in fact its the taking of action to ease some of the pain at the pump.

Wow, they need to get on the horn with the governor there.
