Ah, I see another go-round with this OP and the same situation posted in June and in August:

I thought this situation sounded familiar.

I would be suspicious, too.  You could check MK's website (or she probably has her own MK website to order online, check that) to find out if there are legitimate fundraisers going on in October.  Or if it comes up again, you could ask her to send you an e-mail with the details.  That way you could investigate further and decide whether or not to participate.

LOL yes-the MK lady is having another go around with me!  I really assumed it was yet another selling/recruiting technique but then on the other hand I thought MAYBE it really is a fundraiser for breast cancer-if that is the case I still would not attend but I would contribute money.  But now I see that my contribution would be to purchase MK stuff.

I believe this is a Mary Kay party.  Got invited to a cocktail party with a lot of the girlfriends - turns out to be a jewelry and handbag party.  UGH.  Got invited to a happy hour on the deck - turned out to be a candle party.  Beware.

In addition to this misrepresentation, we had someone in the office that asked everyone to sponsor her for every "walk" or "run" for every charity in the world.  A lot of $5 later, she left the company and I heard via the grapevine she never participated in a single one of the events.  Truly.

I think I'd come right out and ask.

I wonder if this is sanctioned by the company or if this is something this rep is doing this on her own.  If it's a MK company doing this through the reps, it might be more trustworthy.  If it's the rep on her own, I'd be concerned nothing was really donated.

I wouldn't  trust it even if it's  MK itself doing this through the reps! Read the website pinktruth, I don't put anything past Mary Kay.

@pegsue  You know your friend better than any of us so you may be a better judge of her character and motives.  However, as a former Longaberger consultant, I can affirm that there is a legitimate way to hold a Bingo fundraiser and it be on the up and up.  Granted, even done honorably, the consultant/rep may still leave brochures on the tables, but done right there's no real selling per se during the event.

Mary Kay does have a fundraising program.  They have various ideas of how to do it on Pinterest.   I have never participated in one of theirs.   My family participates in the Cancer Relay for Life which is held each July.  Our team just had its first fund raiser for upcoming Relay.   We held it at a local restaurant.  We got a percentage of money spent on food if the customer said they were there for us.  We did good.  We have functions at golf ranges, hold motorcycle poker runs, etc.  Many kinds of businesses donate for raffles, use of their business, etc.  Our team was #1 in our division in July 2016.  Our goal is to do better and be #1 this coming year.  If you hear of such a function please look into it and see if it is a charity you would like to contribute to.  Every little bit helps.
