Got invited to play bingo next week by my neighbor turned Mary Kay rep. saying it's a fundraiser for MK Ash/breast cancer. I declined but I am curious-is it really a fundraiser or is this just another one of her attempts to sell/recruit?    I am suspicious that it is another attempt because she's tried-unsuccessfully- to get me to come to her weekly meetings, etc.

She did this while a group of husbands and wives were all out for dinner and I had to laugh as my DH commented "well she can do whatever she wants to do but in the 31 years of marriage I have never seen her play bingo". God bless him!

Smells like a sales pitch to me.

I would be suspect of her motives, too...The reps of any company seem to find a way to sell their product...

A number of years ago...a friend of mines daughter held a dinner for many couples...at her moms home...sometime during that evening she started pitching her Avon products and passed around the books...

According to my friend many people walked out...and the rest didn't order anything...reason being...it was never mentioned that is what the dinner was for..and they felt duped...

Friend was embarrassed ...I knew in advance and I told her what she was doing was wrong...but she didn't listen...I didn't attend as it was couples and I am a single person....Thank goodness..lol....

@pegsue,  Good for you & your DH ... You've had no interest in her MK products and this could be a rouse by saying it is a "fundraiser for Breast Cancer" to get people to "play Bingo for a cause" and also be exposed to her products, which will probably be prominently displayed.

I'm suspicious of anyone saying they are collecting for a specific cause ... does the money really go to the cause or to their pocket?  I let them know that our family makes donations to specific groups or walk/run events.

Curious, but has she shown you any interest in just being just your neighbor?

I hope you have a good day.

Could be both.

She'll probably be selling between Bingos lol, but it could really be a fundraiser in that part of the proceeds will go to the cause.

October is breat cancer awareness month.  Lots and lots of scams out there.  If you want to donate to the cause, just sent in your donation money to a reputable cancer research center.  You can always play bingo or do whatever.

mzlg-we've been friendly neighbors for the past 12 or so years-we go out as couples w/them a few times a month, have back yard bbq's, our kids hang out, etc but in all that time she has only asked me ONE TIME to go shopping w/her!  But since she started selling MK a few months ago all of a sudden she's asking me to go here and there for her meetings-which I don't go as I'm not interested in it and I have told her that.

I personally find it reprehensible that a rep would use breast cancer as a means to sell (directly or indirectly).  Is she selling items 50% off and then donating the same percentage as 'shoes on sale' to breast cancer? I'd like to see the tax form attendees receive to write off the charitable contribution!
