Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

I have a Samsung front loader and I love it.  It's about 4 or 5 years old.  Knock on wood we've never had a problem with it.  We bought a matching set and it wasn't expensive either.

We did a lot of research when we purchased because we didn't know if we wanted a top loader without the agitator or front loader.  For our situation, a top loader wasn't recommended at all by any sales associates and we read a lot of negatives about them on-line as well.

OP where is your washer leaking from?  I thought ours was leaking too after several months from purchasing it.  It looked like there was water coming from the clear area on the door and there was puddled water on my pedestals.  It turns out, there is a small door on the front of my washer towards the bottom.  Inside that door is a little black rubber hose that you disconnect. Water will come out of it so make sure you have something there to catch the water. There is a basket type cartridge that pulls out.  That periodically needs to be cleaned because gunk will collect on that.

If you don't clean that all, it gets backed up and will leak out.   Now I clean that about every 3-6 months and I've never had a problem.

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

I love the top loaders.  I control the amount of water I want to use.  I control the amount of soap.  If things are heavily soiled, I can leave them to soak as long as I want or add things once the cycle has begun.

Just my personal preference, of course.  Smiley Happy

I have the LG front loader washer and dryer!!  I don't mind the bending you can avoid that if you buy the stands which make them higher...I did not!   I like the washer but not the dryer!  It is horrible for all cotton!  Everything all cotton comes out a wrinkled mess!!Woman Frustrated

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

????  The HE front-loaders are designed to determine water level by load size, so they do use less water.   Since you can also select soil level the water will be adjusted too.

My front-loader also has the "add garment" feature which of course pauses the cycle and unlocks the door.  I can still pause the cycle even after that light goes out.

Some folks like top loaders, others like front loaders.  Whatever gets the job done.

After reading all the raves for Speed Queen, I'm almost wishing my washer would up and die on me.

We have brand new Whirlpool front loaders on stands. They are torso height for me and have more energy-saving settings than you can shake a stick at. They're great.

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

I have an old GE top loader washer.  I control the amount of water, and it has a very fast Quick Wash setting.  I use the low water setting.  Easy to just let delicates and/or tops/sweaters sit in soap and water for ten or so minutes, then I put the dial on Spin, and let the remainder of the cycles kick in, for rinsing (on Gentle cycle).

p.s.  Imo, the secret to using lower energy is to use a 'Quick' cycle.  Also, just set it on Low water level.  Equals: less electricity, less water.  jmo   .............p.s.  Also, less wear and tear on the major parts and rubber belt.

That's the one thing mine doesn't have.  I think we bought ours before they started this.  However, I have to say that I have not once had an issue where I needed to put something in after the washer has started so I don't miss this at all.
