Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

I have a GE top load HE with agitator. I had it for 6 months so far so good. You can have more water & once the washer is in wash you can the lid unlocks incase you need to add something. Don't know about GE brand but it was the only HE washer with agitator. Heard sometimes HE washers have a problem because a load of clothes will unbalance and not wash correctly. I think all washers need agitator to get the clothes clean but maybe that is just me.

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

We have a GE washer top loader. We had a Maytag before it and it broke in 2 years (boy were we mad) But this one is lasting thus far for approx. 7 years?

Out washer and dryer are white. The dryer has a huge capacity and the washer fits a lot.

But anyway, I would not get into buying these new fancy schmancy ones. We are only 2 people (DH and I).  And so why pay more for color? The only ones who go in our laundry room are us...lol...So white is fine, all I care about is that they work!

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

Top loader only. Bought a GE Hotpoint (not digital) years ago that I control the water level and it is not a HE. No more little holes in our clothes and clothes are super clean. I did buy an expensive huge capacity GE dryer that has like 12 settings on it and is digital. Love it. Our full load of towels dries in a half hour and it is energy efficient. I can wash my comforters and dry them at home.

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

I have heard/read/etc sooooo many complaints about front-loading washing machines that I think that when I need to replace my washing machine I'm going to stick with top-loaders.

I just don't want to have to worry about the plethora of problems that many front-loaders continue to have, plus having to bend over to fill/empty the dryer is enough for me.  Smiley Happy

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

We bought a new washer and dryer about 2 years ago. Many salesmen, in different stores, told us to stay away from front loaders, several of my friends did too.  We purchased a Maytag top loader, it does a great job.

No front-loader for me. Too many problems with them, plus they cost more than a top-loader which does the same thing...wash your clothes.

I have the maytag top loader. It has no agitator. I really like it. Made sure it had extra rinse.

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

I have a Bosch front loader and love it!

Never had a smelling issue with it, but I do wipe the inside glass and gasket with a paper towel after done washing.

Doing laundry has become much easier on me since I've gotten this set.  Bending at a certain angle can throw my back out.  And, cleans/rinses more thoroughly.  Drying time, I've found is greatly reduced, too.  And my favorite, my sheets never get tangled up into a ball, something that used to really irk me!

So from my experience, I would definitely recommend a front-load washer and dryer set!

We just bought a new washer in the last couple of months. We never even considered a front loader. I personally see absolutely no advantage to a front loader. Then I am also aware of the many problems with front loaders for many years.

Most of the negatives are related to water retention, which in turn led to mold growing under and in the water sealing gaskets. We went with a mid range LG top load and we could not be happier with our choice.

Re: Front Loader or Top Loader?

I have a 15+ year old Maytag top loader.  It has been a great washer.  My DIL had to have a front loader.  She hated it for all the reasons already mentioned.  Also before long it developed a leak around the gasket, not warrantied and replacement expensive.  She hated that once the water was in she could not add an extra garment.  They now have a top loader and she loves it.
