I say stick with the frogs unless they are damaged & need replaced. They are new to this group of kids, yes? Kids love frogs. They are cute & friendly looking. Pretty color. I like a frog. LOL

@Mellie32 - Have you checked Pinterest? Maybe there are teachers who feel the same as you? I'm not sure of the grade you teach, but I think kids get really excited about going back to school and maybe a new theme would be fun for them.

I don't think you can go wrong with kids and animals, how would zoo, or farm animals do? Or work animals, and another area for special animals in harsh environments? Just a thought.

Or it may be in the library, but I love books for kids, and I think it would be great to keep introducing all kinds of books to the kids.

Have you been to or seen pictures of any cute elementary classrooms?
Wait .... You neglected to mention if you'll have the same kids again in your classroom, or will all your students be new to you?
If they are new students, your frogs will also be "new". Then the question becomes will you tire of the froggies if you keep them?

That's so sad.

@JaneMarple Great post! I have taught for 23 years. Don't think I have ever thought to come here to ask advice about classroom decor, homework, etc...Always have sought to share ideas with teachers at my school, other teachers on my grade level, etc...
@Mellie32 Have you shared with those teachers on your grade level at your school as @JaneMarple suggested? Also, have you gone on and searched for teacher blogs? There are LOTS of blogs on just about every topic of interest to a teacher. In my experience, I get so much out of sharing ideas rather than just asking for advice. I am sure you have loads of ideas that others will find useful, too. Have you gone to Pintrest, Teachers Pay Teachers, etc... Good luck.

I like the idea someone had about checking out pinterest for a fresh take on the frog theme. If I were you I would want to refresh it a bit if I didn't completely change the theme. Do you keep the same theme up all year or change it after a while? If you have frogs all year it might be stale for you having looked at it all last year.
Thanks for sharing your plans with us. I get a kick out of thinking about first graders. They are so much fun at that age.

I think keeping frogs are fine. Your students are new, so the frogs would be new to them. If you are tired of frogs, then there are lots of other things you could use. When I taught younger grades, I always had a theme on my door with the student names. Even though I teach 7th and 8th graders, I still like to have something on my door to welcome my students. Getting ready for a new year with new students is always an exciting and busy time.
