Fox's "Justified" - what happened?

I watched the pilot and liked it, but the show is so different now. I missed season 1 and 2. What happened with the original cast? I liked the two bald bad guys, the blondish friend of Boyd and the one with the alligator teeth necklace. Raylan was handsome, funny, and a gentleman. Now, season 3, he loos dirty and is always making bad jokes or saying something with a s3xua! connotation. Boyd was the bad guy but he was handsome and you could tell that he was a little good deep down inside. Ava was playful. Everybody is depressed for one reason or another now. The blue tint lens makes everything worst. What happened? When did it change?
