Re: Form 1040 Received by IRS 1/24/2018.

My Dad was a federal govt. employee all his life. Had many shut downs. He always had a second job he worked on weekends/evenings painting people's homes so he would do that while he was furloughed. Since he always had a list of people who wanted him to paint for them this was easy for him to pick up work.

Sorry.  When the government is shut down, the waste of my tax dollars stops even if only for a little while.  As a federal empployee, you had perks that the majority of private sector employees did not.

@Cats3000- You may not like the things your taxpayer dollars are spent on, but a government shutdown is an enormous expense and it's all waste - money spent on nothing more than hubris.

It's disgraceful, when the people who are elected to run this country forget why they were elected and refuse to do their jobs.  Instead they point fingers and play games with the lives of average Americans.  However, a shutdown doesn't affect them; members of Congress continue to collect their pay and keep their benefits intact, so why should they care?  (Until the next election...)

I've been through Gov shutdowns and I never missed a paycheck.  One shutdown I was home for a month and then we had a huge blizzard that gave us another week.  My paychecks were still coming to me on time.  I was paid to sit on my duff for five weeks.  Typical Federal Gov. lol

OP, since you're seemingly very stressed out about when you're going to receive your refund, going forward, why don't you just adjust your withholding and/or estimated payments so that you owe a small rather than having to wait on a refund? Make the government wait on you rather than the other way around.

We’re still waiting for 1099’s. I’ll be happy if we can take everything to our accountant by President’s Day.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

So exciting.

Who will win?

Sigh

Op, even if the gov. shuts down for a few days again, it won't disappear forever, never to be seen  again. The gov. will still be there, and it will still fulfill its responsibilities ..... including processing tax refunds. You may not receive the refind on the expected date, but you will receive it. I hope you can find a way to relax and not worry so.
