What person in their right mind would have a mailbox that doesn't lock in this day and age? Makes no sense whatsoever.

I hold my outgoing mail until I see him come up the steps and I hand it directly to him. I've never heard of people tampering with usps mailboxes but I'm sure it happens somewhere but it's not going to happen to me.

he doesnt always walk to our front door......unless he has a package. if he has a package then he puts it in our garage if it is open or drops it off at the front door. our mailbox is at the end of our driveway.

wrote:@Bri36 @Nightowlz We have informed delivery also . It is a big help. Ours does not show magazines or flyers but letters and postcards. As stated you can track pkgs. even those transfered from UPS who usually has the postal id #on their site. Security cameras help too... at least you can have a picture of someone stealing your packages
. Some thieves have savvy enough to recognize cameras and go away empty handed , if not you can post pictures on community sites / show police.
Perhaps the one poster was teasing about a mouse trap , but it could make a homeowner vulnerable to a law suit. I know we have many mail carriers depending on the day and vacations.
@okaywitheasypay Ours shows flyers & other junk mail but not during the Holidays when they are busy. Today all I have is a Mazzio's sale flyer coming so I won't even bother going out after that. LOL!!! DG can get it when he gets home.
I would not put a mousetrap in my mailbox. Not only get the mail person get hurt a kid could also. We all know kids do things they are not suppose to.

The internet isn't safe either. (Wells Fargo for instance)

Pretty much rural and so far no problem. However when our mail carrier goes on a short vacation some of our mail goes to other places. Our post office does have a system that tells us in advance what is coming and shows scanned pictures. I recently signed up. It is called Informed Delivery Daily Digest. You all probably can sign up.

@chrystaltree All the mailboxes on my street are at the end of our driveways by the road. The mailman comes in a truck and stops at each one and puts in the mail. How would he get into a locked one? Have never had a stolen or broken into problem.

The boxes are constructed so that mail can be put into the box, @proudlyfromNJ, but a key is needed to retrieve mail.

I am signed up for Informed Delivery but it’s useless so far. I get an email saying that mail is coming but that no image is available. Right now my mail is being forwarded to me.

there is no way i could have a locking mailbox, mainly because of these two rules.....
my mailbox slot would probably have to be 4 inches, possibly more, depending on the season. we get a lot of mail, junk mail, magazines, and catalogs.
