Being an animal lover, you'll throw the fishies back in ASAP, right?

Always...unless I plan on eating it....which of course will depend on where it's caught and what it is. Smile

My dad, gone now, was a master life-long fly fisherman. He gave lessons at a resort in Colorado in the summer. I still have all his gear including his flies out in my garage. He has a "book" made of sheepskin with sheepskin pages and that's where he kept his flies.

Heeeeeeyy......donna!!!

I could never live in a land locked state.....I have the best of both worlds here....the sound and the south shore.

I've never been to the Jersey Shore.....do you get there often?

I used to go A LOT... as a teen, adult, with my son. The past 2 -3 summers, I have not. I now prefer to go in September/early October.

My favorite place in Long Beach Island, but there are many great beaches.

A friend of mine goes down to Lavalette (I'm sure I spelled that wrong)...and she loves it.

kachina....that's so nice that you still have your dad's stuff. The sheepskin book sounds interesting.

I can cast....love it. I could do it all day, but I haven't been fishing in a long time.

Of course I'm surrounded by water {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} and don't fish anymore.

I guess I am confused by the rolly eyes. I didn't know you were surrounded by water.

The eyeroll was for me. Sorry.

I live on Long Island...surrounded by water....some of it 2 mins from my house and I haven't been fishing in years.

I have heard about Long Island all my life. I live on the West Coast but I would love to tour some of the East Coast some day. I bet it is beautiful where you live. I don't think I would enjoy living anywhere that was not at least a day trip from the ocean. What kind of fish would you be catching there on flies? Are there rivers close by or would it be in the ocean?

ETA...that MIGHT be a stupid question because I don't know that I have ever hear of fly fishing in the sea. {#emotions_dlg.blushing}

cody, come to the east coast. Lotus and I will take you around. We'll have fun. There are many other posters who live in the area. We can have a big party and meet one another.

We can catch a ball game between our teams.

I can't imagine not living near the ocean.

Ohhh Donna. I would absolutely LOVE that. We could have such a great time. If only. But it is really fun to think about.{#emotions_dlg.wub}

Try it. You'll like it. My first catch was a tree branch over my head.

Hey that is my trick!

Ahh, fishing. Our whole family loves to fish - well I love to watch. We live at a fishing/sailing lake and have several stocked ponds on our property. My son has a gorgeous lake on his farm, he bought the property because of the lake. Luckily it was a nice farm with a lovely home because he told his wife they were buying it the second he stepped out of his truck. He has caught some huge, really, fish right off his boat dock. And his grandkids all love to fish, even the baby girl who isn't two yet. She has her own pink plastic fishing pole.

You reminded me of one of the most beautiful films ever made (actually won an Academy Award for Cinematography) A River Runs Through It - about the life lessons really learned while one is fly fishing. Brad Pitt, Tom Skerritt among other great actors. Directed by Robert Redford.

We own it and now I have to look it up!

Hi minkbunny!

Your post reminded me a piece I saw on our news a little while ago about a man that owns property that has a lake. He started taking veterans of the Iraq and Afgan. wars out fishing. They would meet on specified dates and spend that day fishing. The vets they interviewed spoke to how meaningful it was to them. A simple day of fishing, to enjoy peace and quiet (away from triggers of PTSD), ponder life, enjoy the simple things, etc. At any rate it was a big hit and this guy plans on doing the same thing next spring and wants to start a program for vets. {#emotions_dlg.wub}
