Of course I'm surrounded by water
and don't fish anymore.
I guess I am confused by the rolly eyes. I didn't know you were surrounded by water.

Ahh, fishing. Our whole family loves to fish - well I love to watch. We live at a fishing/sailing lake and have several stocked ponds on our property. My son has a gorgeous lake on his farm, he bought the property because of the lake. Luckily it was a nice farm with a lovely home because he told his wife they were buying it the second he stepped out of his truck. He has caught some huge, really, fish right off his boat dock. And his grandkids all love to fish, even the baby girl who isn't two yet. She has her own pink plastic fishing pole.
You reminded me of one of the most beautiful films ever made (actually won an Academy Award for Cinematography) A River Runs Through It - about the life lessons really learned while one is fly fishing. Brad Pitt, Tom Skerritt among other great actors. Directed by Robert Redford.
We own it and now I have to look it up!

I wonder if Hugh Jackman or Kevin Costner, both fly fishing enthusiasts, give private lessons?

I have heard about Long Island all my life. I live on the West Coast but I would love to tour some of the East Coast some day. I bet it is beautiful where you live. I don't think I would enjoy living anywhere that was not at least a day trip from the ocean. What kind of fish would you be catching there on flies? Are there rivers close by or would it be in the ocean?
ETA...that MIGHT be a stupid question because I don't know that I have ever hear of fly fishing in the sea.

I am on the North Shore of Long Island which borders Long Island Sound. On the opposite side of Long Island Sound is part of NYS......and CT. The South Shore borders the Atlantic Ocean.
I would probably have to go upstate to fly fish...not sure if you can do it in the sound or the ocean??? I will have to do some homework.
I do have a friend (GF's hub) that goes every April....he goes upstate NY.

cody, come to the east coast. Lotus and I will take you around. We'll have fun. There are many other posters who live in the area. We can have a big party and meet one another.
We can catch a ball game between our teams.
I can't imagine not living near the ocean.
