Personally I think those who do not get a flu shot are endangering others. There are others like me out there who could risk death if the get the flu. I have immune issues and try to protect myself at all costs

I was hospitalized for Flu B and double pneumonia at the beginning of the year and I am still week and recovering.

Stop being afraid of what could go wrong and start being positive what could go right.

IMO no business has the right to tell anyone they have to have the flu shot. They work on the shot for the strain they think it will be. Have they ever got that right? I don't know because I don't take the shot. Everything today revolves around MONEY.

If you take the flu shot for over 65 I would tell my employer I already had my flu shot & am not taking that one.

I don't even know why they came out with the shot for over 65. I have read these flu shots don't work after a certain age???

I doubt your flu was not as bad because you had the flu shot. IMO the flu that was going around here this year was mild so you cannot go by that. I know several people that had it including me. It started with body aches & headache next a sore throat with it moving to my chest with coughing. I never went to the doctor as there is nothing they can do. I took aspirin, Zand zinc lemon lozenges, extra vitamin c & lots of OJ.

If you never went to the doctor, you have no idea if you had the flu or not.  The only way to really tell is to be tested.

If you work in any capacity as a healthcare worker, your employer most certainly can and should require you to get a flu shot.

You think the flu has been mild?  According to an estimate by the CDC, there have been between 10,000 and 25,000 deaths due to the flu.  That doesn't seem mild to me.

The flu I had this year (type A) was definitely not mild.  I was miserable for at least 10 days, even with getting one of the flu medications.  After that I was still woozy and weak for another week or so.  Then it took over a month to finally get rid of that aggravating cough.

I would never NOT get the flu shot.  Many, many, many years back, I had the Hong Kong flu.  Sickest I have ever been.  Don't want to go through that again...ever.

I too had the HK Flu. It was the sickest I have ever been. I’m pretty sure my flu was complicated by pneumonia but I was too young to know I need to go to the hospital.

@Lipstickdiva   ITA that the flu has not been mild this year at all.  Just yesterday an 11-year-old girl near here died from it.  Cat Sad

I work for early intervention - our therapists are in homes working with kids, a few of them medically fragile. Our office is inside a special needs school with kids who are medically fragile. For me getting the flu shot is a no brainer. The last time I had the flu was Superbowl Sunday 1988 - I was in bed and couldn't even lift my head up, I was so weak. I don't want to experience that again.

One of my co-workers & her son (fortunately both had the shot) came down with Flu Type A in November and it took about a week to feel better; then on Monday I saw her and asked how things were going and she said her son had just gotten over the Flu again, this time Type B.

Luckily neither her husband (he is Cardio Dr) or younger son have come down with it yet.

I am 58 and have never had the flu shot.  Got the flu at the age of 8, 17, and 48.  Hopefully more years ahead flu free.

@beckyb1012  I was like you at 58.... no flu shots since I was a child. I got the flu just a very few times...got over it easily and quickly

As I got into my 60's( now going on 65) I know the immune system gets weaker even though you are doing all the right things. The flu can be more deadly.....

So now DH and I do get out flu shots.   I am also pro active in taking supplements and living a healthy lifestyle to enhance my immune system to fight off the flu and anything else.

My 20 year old grandson got Influenza A that lead to pneumonia.  He was in the hospital for 2 days out of school for 3 weeks.  He did not get a flu shot this year.

I have never had the flu or the flu shot. I can't even remember the last time I had a cold...maybe over 20 years ago?
