Re: Flu Rampant, No Beds Available At Hospital.

@lovesrecess,

I am sure there are some very specific circumstances with your family members condition that rules out organ transplant.  No medical doctor is going to support the idea of transplant if the patient is not likely to survive the grueling process of surgery, recovery, and maintenance.

Organ transplant criteria differs; there is no one set criteria that applies to every organ that can be transplanted.   I understand some organs do have an age limit.

From my observation,  the elderly are usually treated terribly in hospitals. They are the last ones to get a room or anything else in short supply, Shameful.the attitude seems to be “ you have lived long enough”. I have a family member who needs a new kidney. Her dr told her she was too old for one. She is 66. She has lived long enough.

I've been hospitalized twice in the past two years. I'm just a couple of years younger than your 66-year-old family member. I have NOT been treated terribly by either hospital (and health care systems). In fact, I was treated very well by both.

I'm currently on dialysis and have been put on the kidney transplant list. For some reason, your family member must not be a candidate but it's not because she "has lived long enough."

ITA, @Sushismom, and I hope you get that transplant as soon as possible. I will keep you in my thoughts.

Average wait time is almost 4 years but some have a much longer time. I'm of mixed breed (1/2 Japanese, 1/4 Native American, 1/4 mixed) so I'm not sure what my chances are. Funny thing is I look white - my skin isn't dark at all!

Re: Flu Rampant, No Beds Available At Hospital.

My SIL is a traveling hospice nurse, she sees patients in nursing homes. Last week she told me one of the homes has the flu's been running rampant and everyone is wearing masks. And in the school where I work, the stomach bug has been pretty bad with lots of staff and students out.
