• A transcript – You will need this to report the course level and grades that you have received since your freshman year in high school.

This paper presents data concerning the distribution of grants and scholarships by race. It debunks the race myth, which claims that minority students receive more than their fair share of scholarships. The reality is that minority students are less likely to win private scholarships or receive merit-based institutional grants than Caucasian1 students. Among undergraduate students enrolled full-time/full-year in Bachelor’s degree programs at four-year colleges and universities, minority students represent about a third of applicants but slightly more than a quarter of private scholarship recipients. Caucasian students receive more than three-quarters (76%) of all institutional merit-based scholarship and grant funding, even though they represent less than two-thirds (62%) of the student population. Caucasian students are 40% more likely to win private scholarships than minority students.

SCHOLARSHIPS RESTRICTED TO CAUCASIAN STUDENTS Every few years someone creates a “Whites Only” scholarship and justifies it by claiming that there aren’t any scholarships for Caucasian students. For example, Colby Bohannan, one of the founders of the Former Majority Association for Equality (FMAE), was quoted in an article on the web site of a Texas television station2 as saying “It just got really frustrating when every other scholarship you happen to find online you need not apply to based on your ethnicity or gender.” Similar scholarships are also created to protest affirmative action policies and race-based scholarships. While there are very few private scholarships that are explicitly targeted at Caucasian students as a category,3 Caucasian students receive a disproportionately greater share of private scholarships and meritbased grants. Caucasian students receive more than three times as much in merit-based grant and private scholarship funding as minority students.

Minorities don't get squat at UMich.  Come to think of it, whites are a minority here.

So, what I really meant was that AAs and Latinos don't get squat here.

And we do love our high functioning Asians with big out of state checks.  Seriously.

Scholarships are merit based.  Those scholarships based on need, also require excellent academic abilities.  

The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) Program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Native*, Asian Pacific Islander American**, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete an undergraduate college education in any discipline area of interest. Continuing Gates Millennium Scholars may request funding for a graduate degree program in one of the following discipline areas: computer science, education, engineering, library science, mathematics, public health or science.

I don't need to apply @KarenQVC.  I have two grown children who are college educated because their mother was.  My son qualified for some scholarships but he never got any.  They were open for him to apply though.

No one in my family has student debt (thank goodness).  You know, many people work while they go to school too.  Just a thought.  Where there's a will.....

Nah, I just get sick of people complaining about the cost of college when there are 80!!! that will meet ALL their financial needs.  It isn't like this is a big secret.

Have you figured in the cost of travel and housing, room and board?  Because tuition free only covers tuition.

How about the now necessary computer?  Books run up to a thousand a semester now.  How about that?

And the fact that most of those tuition free are not colleges one would need for many professions.

Gals, I can't link.  Google colleges that meet all/100% financial need.  Good ones, like Harvard.  BTW, my son's year Rensalear (sp.) gave a full scholarship to the top science person in the senior class.  Check that out.

No, there aren't colleges like that for anyone who wants to go.  There are those that say "Tuition free."  

Very few applicants qualify for what is usually called a free ride at college, including dorm fees, meals, books etc.
