rosalynn carter was in the hospital twice.

once for a nonmalignant breast tumor

once for a gynecological procedure.

both were in 1977.

My question was a legitimate question.

Has there ever been a First Lady who has spent time in a hospital

during her tenure?   I’m thinking Jackie Kennedy..was she pregnant 

as First Lady (which would have hospital time)?

I'm sorry, @sidsmom. I could be wrong, but it's hard for me to believe that in the almost four centuries of our grand experiment, no sitting FL ever was hospitalized. I did try to google it but came up only hits regarding the current one.

who can forget what Betty Ford did for breast cancer - and alcoholism?  and Nancy Reagan also had breast cancer surgery. many First Ladies have turned an unpleasant situation into a teaching moment.
