Sorry to read about all the fires.

A friend lost everything in 2 fires in CA, a few years apart, in different locations.

Thinking, too, of all the persons involved in keeping things at bay and working in such conditions.

@spud188   I am so sorry to hear that you are dealing with the fires.

How do you prepare for evacuation?  Do you have lots of things together and packed in the car knowing that fire is nearby?  I am guessing you have a "go bag" but what else do you do?

Stay safe!

I live in Reno and it is so smokey where I am it looks like fog.  No fires in Reno this smoke is coming from other fires in Calif.  One is outside of Carson City, I believe Gardnerville.

Reno here, too, and there is one up in Markleeville that's pretty bad.  I think that's where a lot of the smoke is coming from.

Every year.  *sigh*   Smiley Sad

On behalf of California, I sincerely apologize for all the wandering bad air.

And no, this didn't happen every year, definitely not on such a grand level. It's our new norm.

Fires in Oregon near the California border have burned well over 400 square miles.  They are calling it a "bootleg fire."  I have no idea what that means.

@gertrudeclosetcould it just be the name they've given to it?

Most certainly could be @suzyQ3 .  Sounds odd though.

@gertrudecloset

It is the Bootleg Fire, capitalized.  Named after Bootleg Creek.  Most of these fires are named after locations, even streets, where they spark.

It seems like they always name the fires around here.   I don't always get why AND what the heck is the meaning of a given name for a fire.   Smiley Very Happy

The Bootleg Fire is named after Bootleg Spring which is in the area.  Names often reflect local landmarks or geographical locations.
