Posted on the Health and Wellness and thought I would post here too........

Wondering if anyone has any experience on which fiber supplement is better as far as not having sides effects such as gas and bloating? Thanks.

I take Citracel every single day and so does my DH. The doc said to increase fiber, and he said the supplements are fine if I don't want to eat piles of fruit and veggies (we eat two servings a day with meals). I DO NOT take Metamucil or anything that has psyillium (sp) husk in it. That is what causes gas and bloating...at least for me and for others I know. Citracel is a different form of fiber, methylcellulose. I suffered from hemorrhoids for years, even had painful surgery, and since I began using fiber supplements my problems are completely solved. My doc who does my colonoscopy said I am in excellent shape!! {#emotions_dlg.thumbup}

Ground flax. This helps with elimination and is filled with omega-3.

I bought some fiber gummies awhile ago...more because they were gummies than because they were fiber. I don't recall any problems with them. And I plan to get more when I get a chance. Got them at CVS.

I eat a high fiber diet, you might want to try that.

Fiber One makes high fiber cereals, which I have every morning. I have the one that's 80 calories and 10 grams of fiber per 3/4 cup serving. To that, I add a tablespoon of ground flax seed and a couple of teaspoons of chia seeds, also high in fiber.

I use high fiber multi grain bread for sandwiches, and once in awhile I have a Fiber One brownie or lemon bar in the afternoon which is an additional 4 grams of fiber.

Apples are another natural high fiber food.

ps You have to build up using or ingesting high fiber.

If you jump in all at once, you will get some discomfort. Try a small amount and gradually add in more.

It's good for your heart {#emotions_dlg.wub}

I take Benefiber or the Costco or Walmart equivalent every day. Mix 2 spoons in glass of water, no problems.
