I haven't read all the responses so forgive me if this has already been mentioned.
I believe they mean for things that used to always require a signature but they suspended it due to Covid. I get a shipment of wine every two months and an adult always used to have to sign for it. I haven't had to sign for it for quite awhile now. I assume this means that I will now have to sign for my next delivery, which makes sense since it's alcohol.

They are probably trying to stop so much porch theft. It is everywhere now, especially since ordering online is now pretty much the norm. I would not mind doing a signature but don't want to have to leave to go pick up my pkg: defeats the entire purpose of having it delivered.
I think FedEx will clarify the new policy if there is so much confusion.

Maybe companies will get other transit companies to service them since the draw backs are so obvious!
Until then, I'll use the UPS package store and snail mail can't be any worse than Fed Ex!
I'm crossing my fingers!

FedEx Delivery Signature Update
As we continue to support the global supply chain, we’re committed to keeping customers, team members and your packages safe. We will reinstate effective September 15, 2021 our physical signature requirements for paid, premium signature services and commercial deliveries* across the U.S. for the following signature types:
• Adult Signature Required (ASR)
• Direct Signature Required (DSR)
• Indirect Signature Required (ISR)
The reinstatement of signature requirements applies to shipments delivered by FedEx Express®, FedEx Ground®, FedEx Home Delivery®, FedEx Freight®**, FedEx Office® and FedEx OnSite locations.
I wonder, will we be required to go to a Fed Ex office to pick up packages if we're not home at delivery time?
This does not pertain to all FedEx deliveries, only those requiring signature proof of delivery.
@Snowhite714, yup. Unfortunately, many here do not read all the posts.

I suspect that Shippers got an email saying that they should consider requiring signatures due to the supply chain issues. I think FedEx is covering all of their bases ahead of time.
I think you are going to start seeing a lot more packages with a signature required. I think only Soft Surroundings ships by FedEx so I will be interested to see if my next order later this month requires a signature.
I'm sure we'll be hearing from USPS, DHL and UPS in due time.
I manager our company's store for logo items and the supply chain issues have been getting steadily worse since the first of the year. There isn't a decent polo to be had right now in consistent colors or sizes.
