You can apply for a tsa pre check number that will enable you to bypass the long security lines and you don't have to remove your shoes or coats to go through their security.  Just google tsa pre check. It takes about 5 minutes to complete which needs to be done in person so they can get your fingerprints.

I have always hated flying, plus I am kind of claustrophobic. Alaska airlines have little tiny center aisle that fits their cart exactly. When they are blocking the aisle, you are a prisoner. I hate it, but I bite to bullet and fly just the same.

I'm not thrilled with flying but it gets me from point A to point B and back again.  Without it I would have missed this wonderous world.

Ok, I always hear this...that flying is safer than driving.  But, don't I have a much better chance of surviving a car crash than an airplane crash!?

Yes you would have better chances of surviving a car wreck versus a plane crash but the chances are slim to none that your plane would crash.  If you are that scared and you do  not have to fly, don't put yourself through the stress.  No one enjoys a trip where they have stress.

Define "slim."  Slim is all it takes.  Flying used to be easy and fun...now, well, let's just say it's a different world.

The most beautiful poem about flying ever...I'm sure most of you have heard it...

By John Gillespie Magee, Jr.

(Guess how he died.)

High Flight

 "Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air....

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace.
Where never lark, or even eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
- Put out my hand, and touched the face of God."

I respect your fear.  Hopefully, you will never have to fly.

I fly every weekend and it is my relaxation but I started flying in my teens.  Now ask me to get on a skateboard, and I would say I was scared of falling off and breaking one of these old bones.  Man Frustrated

I've never been comfortable flying, but back in the day I flew quite often.  I worked for a small company with 2 locations and flew with the boss in a small plane back and forth.  We have a friend who is a commercial pilot (yes, he gives me a hard time LOL)...I showed him a picture of me in the co-pilot's seat of the company 'plane and he said it looked like a Piper.

I hear ya about skateboarding and broken bones!

Happy New Year!

@Witchy Woman

Though I haven't read any of the replies, I can speak to the experience of a friend.

She signed up for a course with a major airline at San Francisco International Airport, which worked with folks with a fear of flying.  She went through the course and took a short flight, which was a horrible experience for her.

Problem?  She has claustrophobia, not a fear of flying.  She didn't want to fly, because of the closed-in space.  At least she came to learn the root cause of her problem.

Have you considered that claustrophobia might be part of your challenge?

If you ever get bored, try taking Private Pilot lessons.  You may surprise yourself how much you like it.  All the gals at my home love to fly.   Happy New Year to you and everyone else.  Nervously awaiting the return of the girls from their New Years events.  LOL
