@Desertdi   That's too bad that you were not allowed to play with your dolls, even supervised on special occasions. It sounds like you were very creative and inventive in finding adventure.

I have a small collection of Nancy Ann Story Book dolls in

their pink or blue polka dot boxes that I collected as an adult.

I really wasn't a doll kid and loved my stuffed animals but I did have a Tressy doll that I liked  and a betsy wetsy that I kind of liked but never had her wet her diaper which I found yucky!

I loved my Barbie, Ken, Midge, Alan, and Skipper dolls, clothes, and other creature comforts. I had fun with Tressy whose hair could grow and shorten.

I loved my Chatty Cathy. I kept pulling the string until she said, "I love you."

Patti Playpal was 36 inches tall and wore size 3T clothes. I kept her in the front living room window when I wasn't playing with her. One day a boy rang the doorbell and asked my mother if she could come out to play.

Santa was good to me and my sister. I got brunette dolls. She got redheads.

@Krimpette  I still have my Madame Alexander Wendy doll.

Her body is a little chubbier than Ginny's. When I dressed them, the Ginny clothes were a little tight on Wendy. My mother and I collected dolls in the 80's and she bought the Madame Alexander

Little Women set for me. When she passed away at 64 in 1989, I inherited her extensive collection including more Madame Alexanders, Ginny Dolls and antique French and German dolls.

I invested too much money in the 90's on Marie Osmond dolls

and many of those "collectible" porcelain dolls.

When my daughter was 6 and her brother was 3, I made large

(about two feet tall) Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. They are in their 50's and still have those dolls. Last summer my daughter

brought her doll to me and I washed and ironed all her clothes

and replaced the stretched out elastic on the sleeves and pantaloons. She was so well loved that her embroidered face was all worn off, so I re-embroidered it. My daughter was so happy to take home her doll with her makeover.

@SloopJohnB  In the 90's there was still a doll hospital nearby

in Woburn, MA. I did take a few dolls to be repaired there.

Now, with the internet, doll repair supplies are available on line.

Each doll needs a specific size elastic and you can get the hooks

needed to replace them. You can also purchase doll parts or dolls

not in great condition to purchase for parts needed.

I don't think I really played with dolls.

I remember getting a huge "walking" doll that was the same size as me.  She even could wear my clothes.

Our neighbor had a handicapped adult daughter named Niecy, who lived in some sort of "home" and only came to be with her parents one time for a few days that I can remember.  She had the mentality of a child.  She asked if I had any dolls to play with and I got my walking doll for her.

When it came time for her to go back to her home, she wouldn't give my doll back and started to cry.  I told her she could have it and gave it away.  I often wonder what happened to Niecy.

The only other doll I remember playing  with was Barbie.  I owned half of her.  My younger sister and I shared her.

I really didn't have many inside toys when I grew up.  We had a ton of playground equipment in the back yard and a pool.

I had a record player and books...I suppose dolls weren't my thing.

@Carmie  That was so sweet and generous of you to give your only doll to Niecy.
