Pearls , esp. pink pearls.

My favorite gemstone is my birthstone amethyst.  My engagement ring is a beautiful pear shaped rich purple amethyst surrounded by diamonds.  It's what I wanted.

I like emeralds (the old-style deep green Colombians now owned by all the drug dealers - or so I imagine).  And garnets.

Hi!  If I had to pick just one (which is like picking a favorite child for a rock hound like me), I would say unadulterated, stop light red Burma ruby.  They don't call it the king of gems for nothing!  But I love so many other stones as well... tender orangey-pink padparadscha sapphire, vivid royal blue sapphire, and bright green Colombian emerald.  I also love true Paraiba tourmaline and hot pink and red spinel.  Great thread!

OH Goodie!  Let's talk gem stones!  Some say I've never met a gem stone I didn't like - NOT TRUE!  I've never met a NICE gemstone I didn't like!

Garnets - tsavorite & demantoid

Spinel - all colors, especially RED & blue

Beryl - aquamarine & morganite

Tourmaline - deep pink, green, bi-colored

MGM, thanks!  It's unusual for an engagement ring,  but I like it.

And, yeah, it's hard to argue with a rich violet-blue tanzanite!  I also love mandarin (spessartite) garnet.
