I have gel overlays.Been getting them for the last year or so. They last me a month before a fill. Cost me $60 with the tip. I wear rubber gloves to protect them especially doing dishes and wear gloves when I cook and prepare meats. I also scrub the under- sides with soap and water. They are short ovals. My nails bit the dust-ha-- after months of harsh chemo in 2012.. They never recovered and were always so short and weak, they split and had ridges--- just plain ugly. Look and feel so much better.

I used to get mani/pedi's regularly.  I live where there are nail salons on every corner.

The problem is they're NOT pro mani/pedi's.  Some of these salons I'm not sure the employees have a license.  Probably do, just poor or little training.

It's pitiful to pay for having my nails done because I can do it much better myself.  Not fun or relaxing at all to get a pro mani/pedi anymore.  So sad.

When I was in the working world I had acrylics and french manicures, just loved it. When I retired I decided to remove the acrylics, keep my nails short and use pretty color polishes. I'm very happy with that.

In some cases I know what you mean, but I find that the application of the polish looks so much better then when I do it myself. Sometimes I only pay for a polish change which includes filing too and removal of the old. The techs in my salon all have their licenses displayed on their station.

I do my own mani but I prefer someone else does the pedi.

I have gone to the same nail technician for 30 years. She now has her own salon & uses organic products from S Korea. I had acrylics & at the time they were fashionable but they really were thick & unrealistic. I changed to permanent French nails a long time ago. I go every two weeks for fillings & a pedicure. They are thin & natural looking, I never had any fungus & we change them once a year & my nails are in decent shape beneath but they weren’t when I had acrylics.

I love my manicures, my salon is spotless & she uses all disposable supplies.

ive had my acrylic nails for about 25 yrs. i get them done every 2 weeks.. the money does add up. but i figure i dont drink, smoke, so i spend it on my nails. and every 4 months or so, i do get them taken off and get a new set put back on.. so they dont lift too much and get water trapped underneath them.. which will cause a nail fungus...i keep them very short, i dont like, and cant work with long nails..

grew out my natural nails after removal of gels/acrylics about six months ago. It took time, patience, many creams oils and strengtheners, routinely trimming off the damaged portion of nail when there was enough to trim. Overall a huge pain. As of right now my nails and cuticles are healthy, damage-free, polished with a champagne shimmery color. They look nice. Fingertips length now; will let them grow just a bit longer. Never again will I ruin them with enhancements.

I would like a chamgagne shimmery nail color and I see you mentioned one in this post.  If you don't mind, could you post the brand and color of the one you use?  I have lousy nails any more.  They are weak, fragile, break and look awful.  I would like to use a color such as this, as I think it would look pretty when I go some place and would camouflage the bad look of my nails.  Thank you so much!
