I am still working and have my laptop on all the time...I get emails from customers.

I rarely look at facebook during the day, that is why I liked being notified by email.

I don't give out my mobile number unless I have to.

I don't know which is safer but I pay very close attention to those on facebook - lots of scammy people out there

@Icegoddess   That looks familiar but will take another look...thank you.

I did see a notice I needed to update my browser...but if my MacBook air is up to date wouldn't my browser be up to date?

Not Necessarily.  The browser is separate from the OS.  You can have more than one browser.  I have both Firefox and Chrome and often get notifications that my browser has been updated when I bring it up since I guess I have it set up automatically update.  For the OS, I get a notice that I have a new update available and it asks if I want to update now or try later.

BTW, there's also settings like what I showed above for Messages.  You probably need to check that one also.

When I sell on Marketplace using my fake account, I just keep my phone and/or iPad near me and hear a ding when I have a new message.  I use the Facebook app for my fake account for this reason.

I use browsers for my real account.  I don't see or get notices from it, because it's not an app.  Once in a great while, I'll get a random email that someone has messaged me in my real account, since my "real" email is connected to my real FB account.  They are few and far between and hours after someone has messaged, and I have usually already seen it, so I have no clue what that's about.

Also, if possible, you're much safer meeting someone in a public area than at your home.  People who I meet to sell my items have no idea what my real name is or where I live.  I meet in front of Petsmart, which borders a busy road.  Not trying to be bossy, but I've sold on Marketplace with little issue for several years, and I just want you to be safe.

@Ainhisg    Thanks, I do understand the safety issue.  Maybe I feel ok about meeting up at home is because I live in a small town....a city would be different.

So far no problems.  A couple of things I have sold were large and I was not hauling out of the house so someone could look at the item.

Once I have sold thru the items listed with my real name, I will be selling under my fake/second account....mostly so my friend does not see everything I am selling and comment on what on the items.
