Re: FURNACE SETTINGS WHEN YOU GO OUT

[ Edited ]

@Tinkrbl44 ... I agree with you except I live in the Northeast so of course it's winter right now. My thermostat is set at 72 when I'm home sitting watching TV or on my iPad.

When I go to bed I turn it down to 67. I can't sleep when it's 72. That's much too warm! When l go out to run errands, etc. I turn it down to 67 also. Never turn thermostat off in the winter.

That's the only difference because when you return home it's 67...the same I set my thermostat. I can't see leaving the temperature at 72 when I'm out. I feel I'm wasting heat

like you do.

Now my brother leaves his thermostat at 75 and never touches it. It doesn't feel that warm there though for some reason! So he thinks like your neighbor!

We turn our Nest thermostat down to 63 overnight when sleeping. Not over 68 during the day. But turn it completely off?? Never, it wastes so much energy/fuesl bringing it up to temperature again.

I normally just leave the thermostat where it's set if I'm only going to be gone less than a day.  I constantly run hot 🄵 so I like cooler temps than anyone else in the house...it drives them crazy! I like to keep it set around 68 at all times. Honestly, even if it drops down below that it's fine by me.

It's funny how much our temperature preferences vary, isn't it?

We went to visit with in-laws yesterday, soon to be 94 and 98.  They had the thermostats set at 75.

It's set that high because my father-in-law is always cold but she had the sliding door and bedroom window cracked.

My husband tried to tell them to turn it down it's too hot but no, no the maintenance man said to leave it alone.

My husband retired after 45 years in the HVAC business but what does he know.

I felt like we were being cooked.
