The teacher has been released from hospital.

The shooter was taken down by an unarmed volunteer firefighter and held until LE arrived on scene.  The firefighter has served the community for 30 years.

The shooter did not enter the school.  The shooting took place on the playground.  It is unclear if the shooter was actually on the playground or shot through the fence.  He had a truck that crashed into the fence.

The firefighter is a HERO!  It could have been so much worse.

I'd love to know where this teen got his weapon.

This is purely speculation at this point but since he drove a truck to the school that was likely his father's a logical conclusion would be that he used his father's hand gun on both the father and at the school.

Re: Elementary School Shooting

If I recall correctly, this teen didn't even attend this school!  He was home schooled, and I wonder if it was primarily because the kid was socially maladjusted .... or suffered from mental illness.

Re: Elementary School Shooting

@Tinkrbl44, the boy had attended the school but was expelled last year so was being home schooled this year.

Local news has reported that he was bullied at school (to the best of my knowledge this has not been confirmed).  Details are scant about what led up to him bringing a hatchet to school and attacking a student which led to his being expelled.

Re: Elementary School Shooting

There has not yet been an official statement about what precipitated the attack but the family has released a statement which could contain a hint.  As part of the statement they said:  "Our entire family is absolutely shocked and saddened by the senseless actions of our son and grandson."

Including the son (the boy's father) in the senseless actions part of the statement would indicate that something  happened at home that triggered the boy's breakdown.

Just horrible.

I didn't watch much coverage of this because it was so heartbreaking.

I didn't think I could take it.

I wonder if his mother is around, she might be able to fill in some of the details.

I hope this story doesn't get "lost" in the rapid news stories this week.

Re: Elementary School Shooting

The news is not good about Jacob Hall but there is still hope that he will make it.

His femoral artery was severed and he was resuscitated twice while being transported to GMH where he underwent emergency chest surgery to stop the bleeding.  He was resusciated again during surgery.  When he is strong enough he will undergo another surgery.

He is fighting for his life and remains in critical condition.
