If DH and I go out to a nice restaurant, and if I have 2 glasses of wine and he has a beer and perhaps one glass of wine, it's $150 minimum. I eat seafood, shrimp, and I won't drink cheap wine. We've spent over $200 for 2 people at a nice restaurant. Wine is their biggest money maker. I can buy a whole bottle of KJ Chardonnay for $11 and it's $10 to $11 a glass at most restaurants. I always get what I want and won't scrimp on food/wine so we don't eat out at expensive restaurants often. WE more often go to lunch at Jason's Deli for $20.

winamac, we go to one of our favorite places and they charge 12 for a glass of kj.....AND we have a liquor tax of 9% on top of that!

Exactly. I get what I want. I won't drink cheap wine. We spent $200 a few weeks ago, and I only had 2 glasses of wine and DH had 2 glasses of wine.

Why do they even bother to have kitchens in houses they build? {#emotions_dlg.rolleyes} People are just getting too lazy to cook, or just don't know how!! With all the "cooking" shows, and cookware being sold, what are they doing with it? {#emotions_dlg.blink} DH and I love cooking, and don't even care to go out for production kitchen, warmed up meals. That's what is being serviced at a lot of these chain places. No thanks! Some of the local family owned restaurants are better choices IMO!

"people are getting too lazy to cook" seems like an overly broad generalization.

Do you realize a lot of people work and simply don't have the time to prepare more than a sandwich or soup in the evening?

You don't have to go to a chain restaurant to eat out. I prefer local places and my taste runs to ethnic foods, which would be cost-prohibitive for me as a single person to prepare every day.

I cook some days and I go out some days.

It's so easy sometimes to fire off an accusation when you only have your own life to compare. It is always good to consider other people may have different lifestyles than you.

I don't know about anyone else, but I still cook for my family. We eat out very little each month and we all prefer the home cooking which I don't ever intend to give up or lose my touch in the kitchen. To each his own though but don't you dare mess with my kitchen, lol.

I love to cook, I have a beautiful kitchen, my children are older and I love to eat out.

Different strokes for different folks.

As I've gotten older, I like red meat less and less, try and buy local vegetables, buy organic and stay away from prepared/boxed/canned foods.

I also try and drink water 75% of the time.

I'm not sure where you got that I've lost my touch in the kitchen?

I do a lot of entertaining and I prepare everything I serve for my parties myself. I simply don't feel the need to do it every day. I eat little meat these days and find I do not need a big meal every day.

To each her own.

Azterry, I don't know about you but I feel that I've gotten BETTER in the kitchen. "This ain't our mama's kitchen anymore."

I cook 99% of the time. Going out to eat is usually with DS and all when they feel like getting out on the week-end.

Now and then DH and I will go out for coffee and dessert.

I'm just not keen on most restaurants but when do go out with the kids it is usually to someplace different along ethnic lines.

I think I have too, MGM.

I look for unusual recipes and I experiment a lot more than my mom ever did. She was cooking for a family of six and she didn't have some of the interesting ingredients we have now.

I think some people don't actually realize the huge difference between the cost of eating out and eating at home. I'm not a fan of eating out for both financial and nutritional reasons.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.
