Often the ticketing is warranted when someone leaves the car running UNATTENDED. You know go outside, start the car and go back in to have another cup of coffee while the car is warming up.  It is an open invitation for someone with the intent of stealing a car.

@magicmoodz, cops will issue a ticket in my area for this reason.  It is against the law to leave your car unattended with the keys in it.

I have a remote start on my car.  My car is in my garage but when it's cold, I start the car every morning to let it warm up so I'm not getting in a freezing car.  At work when my car is in the parking lot, I use the remote start from inside the building.   Mine automatically shuts off after 10 minutes.

Otherwise, I have a scraper and snow brush in my car I use.

I don't have a garage so I run out turn defrosters on full blast and let the car run in driveway.  I live in a dead end area where I don't have to worry about it getting stolen.  I never scrape.

Exactly!

Is it as cold in Ohio as it is in Minnesota? The only saving grace is we have only had a few days of hazardous driving. It's too cold to snow!

The article is from 2016, so maybe more have been added.

yes @esmerelda

i did check it out and posted it in one or my responses above.

i still have not seen or heard of anyone getting a ticket for having their car running in my general area, especially during the colder weather, which we are experienceing now.

not sure if it is really illegal during this type of weather.

i do have a frostguard and i do leave my car running with the defrost on in my driveway. i dont think i will ever get a ticket.

@cherryI wouldn't worry about him.  There's probably been a gofundme page started to pay his "steep" ticket.  You know...since he was on TV.

I hope so @esmerelda  he was just a youngster, and seemed like a really nice boy. He didn't do it on purpose

I have never heard of being ticketed for idling a car.  When it's cold, you can't just put the key and go.  When you are in a fast food drive-thru , you are essentially doing the same thing.
