Hi @PJinIA
Wow. Strange comment to come here, probably.
I've never seen a pic of what's going on inside the mouth of an Eagle. Let alone seen that beak, opened mouth, - the upper beak, & shape, & esp how dramatically downward, & curved the point that upper beak is.
I never cooked meat outdoors again, or ate meat outdoors again, after that incident I described above. Not even a hot dog!
And surely I didnt, wouldnt, & won't walk my dogs, or cats, or small pets outside, without my immediate attendance right beside my beloved pet.
My own human attendance at that steak & grill, obviously didnt deter that Eagle that came swooping down on me, even if it perhaps only targeted my steak. It seemed so perfectly targeting.
It didnt hurt my own body at all. I dont remember even feeling it to my own body, it's feathers, but it was sooo targeting that steak! I felt the Eagle's wind tho.
That Eagle WAS HUNGRY! And seemed to know exactly what it wanted, & how to target & get it.
I was in such shock, I dont remember that the Eagle succeeded in "catching" that steak, at this very exact incident. I dont think so at that time. - I just ran inside! "Here, take the steak!"
Don't even remember if my College Buddy went outside then either. I think we just let the Eagle have that steak & whatever it wanted!
No wonder Eagles are so revered, & symbols of such strength & regality.
I totally leave them alone, close up. And still, revere, respect them, but - from a safe afar.

Are you seeing flocks of migrating birds right now? I have seen a lot here...and am wondering if they are unseasonally coming from CA because of the fires...? di
@Desertdi. It's been so cold here, I haven't been outside long enough to observe birds.
I have wondered how many 2-legged Californians might be migrating Eastward.

If anyone is interested there are many eagle nests across the country with live cameras, most are 24/7, 365 days a year, some have thousands of followers, some have live scrolling chats under the video with moderators, some have Facebook pages, and some have web sites. Some currently have eggs they are brooding, some have eaglets already hatched, and some have not laid their eggs yet for the season. I know of 2 in Florida, 1 in DC, a couple in LA, one in Iowa, 2 in CA, and 4 in the CA Channel islands. You can go to 'youtube dot com' and once there use their search bar to type in something like "live eagle nest cameras" and look through results or search that same phrase and include your state name and something high come up in your state. If you want more specific info let me know and I can provide specific names. I have been closely following several nests through their joys, struggles and sadness for several years.
Thanks for sharing these! The one in Iowa is The Decorah Eagle Cam.
YES! It is! Glad you are familiar! And some are in the Kisatchie National Forest in Louisiana.

I was very fortunate to see an Eagle soaring right in front of me a few weeks ago. They never cease to amaze me.

@Kachina624 Eagles have ALWAYS been my favorite raptor; followed closely by owls! They are the undisputed king of the skies, and like E.F. Hutton, when they "squawk" everybody listens!😂 I LOVE❤️ this educational graphic!😁

@Kachina624 I am an avid eagle lover and watcher. Currently, I watch about 15 nests and once went to an Eagle Fest. Right now, I am concentrating on the Northeast Florida eagle nest. Gabby and Beau are the parents of newly hatched NE31, who is a cutie pie. I love their chortles and with the cams on You Tube, you get to see the dynamics of a loving family, who protect their young above everything else. We are all waiting for the cams to be fixed on the West End bald eagle nest on Catalina Island to see if the male, Akecheta, is healing. He was injured in a territorial fight with another eagle. In the next few months, more of the northern nests will be active with eggs being laid. I love the eagle season.

@stellabystarlight. I've watched eagles too and it is a lot of fun watching them go through the whole nesting, hatching process and the interactions of the family.

@Kachina624 I love them. We are getting more and more eagles in New York now. It is a freezing 28 degrees now, but watching the nests takes my mind off the cold.
