THE FRENCH QUARTER IN NEW ORLEANS

Someone at WWL-TV in New Orleans posted this picture of the Quarter recently on X-- under snow, with more coming!

I remember battling a mighty cold, windy Mardi Gras or two, but never have I seen those historic streets like this.

Pretty.

It sure is pretty, but I bet their roads, streets and bridges are a big challenge right now! They most likely have no way to plow those streets or keep them from getting packed down and icy!

My husband's cousin lives in Mandeville, I think he said they have a few inches. . . reminded him of home here in PA.

I saw a video of a guy playing ice hockey on  Canal Street in New Orleans.

The street looked like it was solid ice so he had the entire street to skate.

@Oznell

We ended up getting 10 inches! A big problem for a place not accustomed to snow.  The last time we got this much was in 1895.

 @jannabelle1 Snowplows from Indiana are clearing the streets. Also, the equipment that is used to scoop trash and beads off the streets during Mardi Gras is being used to scoop snow.

I'm not a fan of snow so waiting for it to melt, which won't be for a while - temps are below freezing for the next couple of days. Ugh winter!😝

Arkansas also sent trucks and equipment down to help.

I follow a lot of the beach towns on Facebook (tourism and businesses) on the Gulf Coast and my mind has been blown seeing snow and snowmen on the beach.

Re: THE FRENCH QUARTER IN NEW ORLEANS

While fresh snow always looks beautiful, it's crippling to communities not use to dealing with it regularly.

Cars without snow tires, buses and trucks without chains, I imagine many things are at a standstill and businesses are closed.
