@JoyFilled Warrior - I'm not sure about eagles, but I do know geese and osprey do, so I assume eagles do too. I'll ask DH when I can!
I'm not sure about the nest sitting.

I have the live Eagle Cam bookmarked and check it several times during the day.
While I know this is their time to lay eggs and teach them how to be eagles after they hatch, it's breaks my heart to see mama Jackie sitting on the nest around all the snow that has fallen, and she's got snow on her, as well.
Well, Mama has to keep her eggs warm and she's determined to tough it out until all the little eaglets have escaped from their egg prisons, lol.
Shadow has a perch on a tree nearby where he is not on the nest, but is keeping her company and will help if needed.
Apparently, birds can't "help" the chicks hatch. They need to push hard and develop little muscles to be able to sit upright in the nest. If a chick can't manage to break free of the egg, they'll die, and parents know that only the strong will survive.
Fingers crossed for the piping third egg! ![]()

@JoyFilled Warrior Yes & yes.
This is Jackie's 2nd or 3rd mate. Previous mates died. She is older than Shadow = which makes Jackie a "cougar."

The partially hatched chick hardly moves - too weak to peel or crack its shell? Hopefully, the claw did not injure the chick or embryo sac.The park rangers or whoever is keeping a close watched on the egg chatted they are keeping a close watch on it.
Both adults are turning the egg before "nesting."

There are 2 you tube channels that are loaded with information about this nest and the chicks. One is called Big Bear Bald Eagle Nest 2025 and the other one is Big Bear Bald Eagles Live. They also have a great facebook page titled Big Bear Bald Eagles - Jackie and Shadow - FOBBV Official Group. The moderators post a lot of informative videos on this pair.
