I'm glad they've had a couple warmer days and the snow has melted. High of 51 degees today.
Looking at the 10 day forecast for Big Bear, It's going to go back down into the 30's until the weekend, then into the 40s next week.
Well, it is March ...

Just glad it wasn't ravens ... who love eggs and chicks!
I just hope Shadow will be safe until the babies leave the nest. If anything ever happened to him, I don't know if she could handle this herself.

YIKES!!!!!
Jackie flew the coup!
After about 5 minutes, Shadow showed up, surveyed the nesting area, looked around beyond the tress then took over nesting.
Chicks were in a food coma the whole time.

Now that I think about it that squirrel had better watch himself.
Shadow is a Bald Eagle with an almost 7 foot wing span ... he won't let anyone outsiders close to his little eaglets! ![]()

The chicks are growing so fast, the parents cannot keep them completly covered when "nesting."
The chicks beaks are now showing more yellow than black.

This is funny. I've got web cam 24 on constantly, listening for chirps and parental discussions.
At around 4pm pacific time, suddenly Shadow walked right into the lens of the camera like he thought "someone is watching us". He looked like he was investigating for a moment, then went out of frame.
I wonder if Jackie thinks someone is watching her .... lol.
Those cute little eaglets have no idea that they are "famous".

Wednesday morning and it's getting windy in Big Bear. The tree branches are moving and the temp is in the 30s and cloudy. Snow is possible.
There is a storm coming and I think the parents are getting ready for it. They seemed to be talking about ... something. Momma moved a few sticks around. Rearranging furniture? lol ![]()
Then Jackie flew off to take a break and daddy Shadow is giving the babes chunks of fish. Chick #3 had learned how to bonk and is a little more aggressive at feeding time.
I wondered about bird poop in the nest and how it is dealt with. A friend told me that instinctually they shoot the poop out. Yesterday, for the first time, I saw chick #1 suddenly back up a couple steps, lean his head down, lifted his bottom up, and shot a little white squirt out! It was hysterical!
