i like the "make an offer" feature the best.......i submit what i am willing to pay and see if the seller is willing to take that offer.
i do also use "buy it now" and the bidding features. i am not a "sniper" though. i dont think there has ever been anything that i have been upset about losing if i do lose an item.
have never had a bad experience!

I have another question.....
So something is listed and only has a BUY NOW option . It often
shows others are watching ? ( ex. It might show 3 watching ).
Why are they watching and not buying ? ? ![]()
If the item has 5 days left...are they waiting for some reason?

I just received my latest ebay purchase: riding boots that have been discontinued that I absolutely love but can't find anymore except on e bay.
It was a Buy It Now, which I never do as I love sniping. But I really wanted these boots and knowing they only turn up in my size now and then, I went for it. They are brand new! Couldn't be happier!
They were half the price of the first pair I ever bought and they wear like iron. (I have 5 pairs now!)
Been bidding for almost 20 years. I no longer sell on there because e bay shows favoritism to the buyers. MHO

The watchers are often people who have the same or similar item to sell and are watching to see how much the item fetches.

Some sellers have a Make Me an Offer option as well as the other two mentioned. They will include their phone number. I have taken someone up on that, called them and made an offer which was accepted. He told me he would change the Buy Now price so I could buy it at the agreed upon price. I refreshed my browser, it was there and I quickly clicked and then used paypal to buy it.. The seller shipped it to me that very afternoon. He was a jeweler and was very nice and included his business card when the ring arrived. He has a jewelry store but unfortunately it's too far away from me.

If I am browsing Ebay and see something I like or buy regularly like a skincare item, I add it to my watch list. Then I can go into My Ebay and from my watched items, I can click on the "view similar items." Then I can compare various listings for the same item, so I can find the one with the best price.
I'll also use it if I am browsing for gift items and I haven't made up my mind what I want yet. I will "watch" items that are serious contenders so that I can remember them, and find them again when I decide. Think of it as a "bookmark" for Ebay.

Whatever you do, read the sellers reviews especially the bad ones. Pick a seller that has a 14 or 30 day money back return policy and is highly rated by eBay. Be leery of sellers who use stock photos. Ask questions because many sellers do not disclose flaws or defects and will claim that you didn't ask so they didn't tell. Learn the lingo - NIB - means new in box - NWT - means new without tags, etc.
I have made some great purchase from honest, decent sellers and I have made some bad purchases because I didn't read the bad reviews or ask the right questions.
When you bid on an item, moments before the auction is over, someone will likely come in seconds before bidding is over and outbid you. Be prepared for that. They sit on the sidelines and don't bid at all because they don't want to drive the price up but then they sweep in and snatch it up literally 2 seconds before bidding ends. Also watch for the shipping fees. Some sellers offer FREE shipping as an added incentive to shop with them while others charge an arm and a leg and take forever to ship.
Good luck!

Re: "watching" -some watchers are other vendors who are curious to see what the competition is doing, others are just looking and some are watching and waiting for the 11th hour to bid so they put the item on their watch list til the auction is almost over.

@justmyopinion just to let you know; NWT means New With Tags. NWOT is New Without Tags.

@truffle @IG and others who gave me tips !!
I just made my first ebay purchase and I won the bid !! ![]()
I applied all the info I learned here plus reading somethings online.
I have sweaty palms and a racing heart. So thanks for helping
me out....I think !!!! This could be addicting. ![]()
The purchase was a handbag. I bid on another too but noticed it
during the final minutes and wasn't able to up my bid as time ran out.
I think one purchase is enough for my first time.
