Have you ever read reviews and the item is rated as 4 stars? Yet, when you start looking through them many are returning the item because of color, fit ,sizing or material. I do not understand why customers are rating them high and returning the item. It encourages customers to buy this item. Very deceptive.

I noticed this too and it gives an incorrect composite rating. Reason for it is loyalty to a brand and pressure from peers. On the forums, it is not appreciated if your review is negative from the diehard fanatics of a few brands. On a review, if you give an item a low rating, you will get dinged by a no vote that your review was not helpful (even though it was).

I've also noticed the opposite happening. A customer will rave about a product, but only give it 3 or 4 stars because it took too long to arrive, or they didn't like the packaging.

In general,It is my opinion that the reviews on this site are useless. As previously stated by another poster some of the cliques will blackball a poster if she dares give anything in their favorite product line a neg review. They will also really pile on a none clique member for doing so.

The item may not have been a good purchase - it may not have looked good on the customer or the coloring was not flattering - that doesn't negate the item overall.
Reviews are like that all over - I've seen shoes with dozens of 4**** ratings on another site and along will come one customer givine only 1* because the shoes didn't fit. LOL

There are, unfortunately, a lot of reviews that seem to get past the people who scrutinize them before posting. Well, maybe it's not actual people, but a keyword automated system that lets them go, as others have said here in the past.
The ones that are almost as irksome as the ones devoid of actual pertinent information, for me anyway, are the ones posted by people who didn't even purchase the product, or some who say they did purchase it and can't wait to get it. Uh, ok...SMH

@chickenbutt Some sites will verify that the reviewer did indeed purchase the item but I agree that somebody shouldn't be reviewing if they purchased but haven't received it yet or worse - never even bought the darn thing in the first place.

Hi Cakers! Long time no see.
Unfortunately, there are reviews here at QVC that seem to get by where the reviewer actually states in the review that they haven't purchased the item.
It's usually something like 'I didn't purchase this item because it looks too xxxx' and then they give it one star. Or 'I hope I can afford to purchase this soon because it looks great' - five stars.
They really should make it where that account number needs to have purchased the item before the system lets a review through. Unfortunately, that would cut out reviews from gift recipients, but the purchaser can still do that in lieu of the other person. I've done that where the person tells me all the things they like about the item, etc, after using it for a while. Then I can review it for them.

When it comes to qvc, if I read more than one negative review about the product itself, I don't purchase! I agree that some reviews get ridiculous and aren't about the item. But every time I've gone ahead and bought something, particularly clothing, that just a few people have reviewed negatively, I seem to always end up returning it. Maybe it's just me, lol.

I too have seen this and been baffled by it. If you did not keep it, and essentially were out $10 on round trip shipping because you had to send something back, why on earth would you give it 4 stars? On the other hand, I have seen what looks like an otherwise very good review but given 2 stars ??
and I agree with the other poster who said that your review will get down-voted as unhelpful if it is a negative review. I have posted a couple of negative reviews that I thought were full of very useful information (for example one pair of shoes, that they run very narrow but that I otherwise really liked the look so it was a shame but they were going back). I agree that there are die-hard brand fans that go around down voting any negative review, just like they come to these boards and accuse people of having an agenda if they dare have something less than positive to say about their beloved brand.
