Re: Dutch Treat Reception ???

It is because of the PC police that we are left with these younger people who think they are owed and have no problem showing it.  Yes, I will say the word TACKY.

Re: Dutch Treat Reception ???

@proudlyfromNJ  OP's friend is paying maybe $10,000 to cover up the fact her future DIL is an etiquette doofus.  I hope her son is forced to pay the mother back.  We all act like it is OK for these young people to act like a bunch of 2 year olds grabbing toys that are not theirs.  The PC police basically say any behavior is acceptable--we are not to call out people who are TACKY.

I've called people tacky to their face for some things on occasion. No police, pc or otherwise did anything or said anything to me.

Maybe it is me, but I do not think that being kind is being politically correct (a term over and mis-used).

I couldn't agree more.

One of my pet peeves is the constant mis-use of the phrase politically correct.

Yeah, a wedding registry is acceptable and honeymoon registry is entitled. Good logic.

I thought the purpose of wedding gifts is to help a couple set up their new home together.  A honeymoon is just a vacation, and, IMHO, up to the couple to pay for what the can afford.  It they spend so much on the wedding that there's nothing left for a honeymoon, that's on them.  They can save up and go when they can afford it.

To me its not a good way to start out married life, expecting others to fund your lifestyle.  What next, the go fund me for their first home?

I thinlk expectations have gotten out of hand for weddings and all the expenses involved.

And as for another word for tacky, how about momentary lapse of good judgment.

Then what kind of gifts are you supposed to give at the wedding SHOWER?
