Well that's not good, I just purchased a huge pack because it stated on package can be stored up to 10 years

I can't believe you mentioned this. On Thursday I checked the batteries in my alarm clock because the alarm didn't go off. One battery leaked. Had to clean out the dried up stuff from the battery because it leaked quite a bit.
Then we had a short power outage the same night. One of our flashlights did not work. Another leaking battery. I am so disappointed with Duracell. But unfortunately I bought a large package of them - have lots to use - hope more don't leak.

QVCfreak.. Duracell is not the same product as it was decades ago..Nothing seems to be anymore.. I use lots of flameless candles & believe me over the last couple of years many, many of these batteries have leaked.. I've complained to the company once before & next week they're going to hear from me big time.. I'm going to try & return whatever I have unopened to the store.. Maybe Duracell will do something when they see their sales going down..

Drizzella, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but trust me, more of them will leak.. I'm going to stop buying Duracell & try to return whatever I have unopened.. I use lots of batteries for different things & believe me Duracell always leaks.. I truly know & feel your disappointment bc a few items are now unusable bc of the leaking..

I always purchase batteries from Costco when they have an extra few dollars off. I just went to look and they are all Duracell. I have never had a battery leak. I never leave the batteries in the Holiday items. I take them out and recycle them even if they still have some life left in them. The candles I just let the batteries run out in the summer because it is light so late here and then replace them in the fall. Smoke detectors I change twice a year with daylight savings.

You're extremely lucky.. Because I use lots of batteries, I'm very, very careful how I store them & remove them when item is not in use..

Store your batteries in the refridgerator that are not in use. I have had all brands leak. Like someone else says , they just are not made like they used to be. Since I collect clocks and have a lot of illuminated candles, I go through a lot of batteries.
All batteries have a shelf life. Seriously try putting the ones that are not in use in refrigerator. It helps.
Also, if one leaks, make sure to get out all the acid. I take a q-tip and dampen it and put a tiny bit of baking soda on it. Again , clean out all acid.
Good luck!

BalletBabe: thanks for the tip; but what's sooooo frustrating is that the last leakage the batteries were brand new..

I am especially worried about the clock. It is a Seiko and it plays 6 different Disney songs. You can select the song you want to wake up to. I would rather wake up to a song that a buzzer. I am sure this clock is no longer made and I would have a hard time replacing it. That is why I worked so hard to get all the leaked battery junk out. I still like the clock and want it to last as long as possible.
In the years I had this clock this is the first time I had a leaking battery.

After reading these posts, I know that my flameless candle had a battery leak...need to find it and try to swab out the offending acid. Thanks folks !
