It appears the non bolded names are "newbies," those w/under 100 postings. Or maybe 50 postings.
FWIW....
The only dumb questions are the ones NEVER asked!
@Mz iMac I see the same thing you do. Non bolded appear to be new. Bolded posters have more posts. I am on an IPad if that makes any difference to posters that don't see bolded and non bolded.

I tested out the "only new posters" theory, and one of the thread starters names that show up in regular, non-bolded font for me is a thread with 10 pages and a poster with almost 10,000 posts. So it's not only new posters. Maybe it's posters who have only started very few threads.

Whew! I'm glad others are seeing that also. I've always been curious about it and finally decided to try to delve further. Interesting! (At least to me!!!!)

@Krimpette, however the poster's created or spelled their Nic ... If upper & lower case, all caps or all lower case, that is how it is showing up. You can 'click' on that Nic/name and read their posts and/or comments.

@Moonchilde If you're talking about the poster on the first page, that's an interesting one. The name in the OP is not bolded, but currently that same poster has the last reply and that name *is* bolded. But even though the names look identical, there are 2 separate accounts (hovering over them shows 2 unique user IDs). The non-bolded named account has fewer than 40 posts under that version of the name. It's the bolded name that has the account with almost 10,000 posts.
Edited to say I don't think this poster is doing or has done anything shady with the 2 accounts...it reads to me like some sort of technical glitch like many posters had where they suddenly couldn't log into their regular account at some point. I just pointed it out to show that I don't think it disproves the post count hypothesis ![]()

I've noticed the same thing! Are the non-bolded posters' names clickable?

Thank you, @WenGirl42. I can't 'hover' on an iPad (at least, I don't believe I can), but I believe ya ;-)
'Tis still somewhat of a mystery altogether. I have never noticed it, and probably wouldn't have except for this thread.

When a person chooses a name, it will appear in the manner she chose to write it. If she put all caps, that's how it will appear. Most people just capitalize the first letter. Some people with small egos just do all lower case.

So where are the Q Enforcers? If anything at all naughty had been posted this thread would been have gone in minutes. It's been two hours and nothing.

As a teacher and trainer, that's exactly what I always tell people.
But there are dumb questions. SO MANY dumb questions.
The OP's question isn't one of them, but they do exist. ![]()
