From the sounds of it (I don't do FB so I'm just going by what my husband tells me) EVERYONE'S lives are wonderful and full of excitement and adventures on FB.

Yes, everybody has the perfect life according to their social media. @monicakm

Imagine this is what our children are growing up with. So many young people think they don’t measure up. Adults too. It is a big problem complicating an already epidemic issue with mental health.

I personally know people that look like they are living the dream on their social media, but in reality, their life is anything but……

Re: Drastically reducing my Facebook involvement

@smoochy @I feel the same way. I am not tech savvy and have trouble narrowing what comes up on Facebook. I also internalize sad dog videos, people needing help etc.  I often get a video of dogs in animal control that look so sad and lost and near their euthanasia date😢 these can make me fixate  and cry. Not healthy! People that r anonymous on social sites can be so mean and negative that it makes me lose faith in humanity.

I don't use any social media except for here-----don't understand it-and don't understand the need to tell all about everything either. Never have. So happy this was not a thing when my kids were young. They are both in their 40's now so can decide on their own.

Re: Drastically reducing my Facebook involvement

I'm on Facebook as well, and I keep up with about a dozen friends on there, I'd miss it if I were not there. I keep in touch with cat rescue groups, medical/vet group/cornell cat health....and I also stay in touch with other Rheumatoid and Diabetes groups. If not for Facebook I would probably not have known about the 2 cats on 'death row' in NC that were delivered to us a few months ago, it saved both their lives. I have a highschool friend in need of a kidney-live donor-that hopefully will find one with the help of social media. We found our new (to us) motorhome thru facebook. . . there is a lot of good that comes out of it when it is used for good!

I follow several of my local meteorologists and I'm grateful they share everything.  Living in an area with extreme weather that can change on a dime, I like to know the latest.

I stepped away from Facebook at least 5 years ago and was immediately grateful I made the move.

Completely agree with what you say about the negativity. I realized what a waste of energy and time.  Final thing that did it for me was a friend constantly posting pics of her hair blowouts.   Such a waste of time.

hair blowouts, lol 🤪 I hope ppl don't feel that way about my cat pics and videos. Haha

Re: Drastically reducing my Facebook involvement

I never joined FB.  My two siblings did at the very beginning, my sister no longer has her account.  She says the same as others have mentioned.  Too much glorifying your own life making others think their life is boring.  Lot's of fabricated BS according to her.  My brother is still on as he runs a small business network so I guess it works for him.  It is interesting though many of my friends tell me they are no longer on either.  I think it's had it's run maybe........don't know, don't care.   I never had any desire to connect with supposed "friends" I left behind in high school for a reason, LOL!

I am on Facebook, but the groups I belong to or follow are all sports related, local groups, Jersey shore locations, animal welfare, and holiday themed groups. Every once in awhile someone goes crazy about a local issue (parking, traffic etc), but nothing outrageous or political. I guess am lucky that my groups have good mods and/or people who are respectful.

im a sports fanatic. Let me get on your hockey group and talk about the Lightning. Let's rumble!! But seriously that stuff is fun

Re: Drastically reducing my Facebook involvement

[ Edited ]

I have not read all of this thread.  But my comment to anyone using face book is to google facebook purity.  It gives you the option to filter out subjects, people and ads that you do not want to see.

Unfortunately the facebook owners hate it and try their best to defeat it.  But usually the purity folks find a way around each attack.

I've been using it for years and highly recoment it.
