I don't have those types of problems with Facebook. I use it a lot for local business information since most places around me use FB now instead of a website or the old Yellow Pages.
It may depend on your friends and what you're clicking on. I have only one "friend" that reposts anything political and I just ignore that. I follow a couple of local news stations that have links to news stories that I might read but I have a good idea from the title what it's about and if it would bother or interest me, so I have a choice to view or not. As for all the infighting and insults in the comment sections, that's all very easy for me to just skip. I can read a story and not the comments.
Mostly what I see are animal sites (because that's what I tend to view) and ads for products I may have searched on other sites.
My Facebook is pretty boring!🤷‍♀️

I use FB but am very selective and do not make my account public. I have a select group of friends and that's it. Having said that, there are some of those 'select' friends, who I've known for a long time, that will post something political. I will delete the post and not engage. I have found that compared to the last presidential election cycle, there are far fewer political posts, at least in my FB feed.

I guess it depends on your approach. I'm on facebook but haven't looked at my feed in a long time nor do I spend a lot of time there. I just go right to the pages I'm interested in which are informative and positive. I recently discovered one that is full of wisdom and great insights and have appreciated what I've read there.

THIS! Another thing that is very easy to do, is to either click on the three bars (app or mobile view) or the word "feeds" (laptop/computer on the left) and choose friends. Then you only see the things your friends post. If you have friends who post things that you don't like to read but you still want to keep them as friends, just go to their profile and select "unfollow." They have no idea you do this, and you don't see their posts unless you click on their profile. You can also hide your posts from people by going to your settings.

I've been on Facebook since 2009. I have no problems with Facebook and am on there a lot.
I don't understand how people say they have Facebook friends they don't know. When you receive a friend request, the response choices are confirm or delete. Make your choice.
I don't have a gazillion friends on there. I used to be politically outspoken on there, years back. A few unfriended me and I've unfriended a few. I don't post political stuff now.
Facebook is what you make it. And I absolutely don't use Facebook marketplace.

I'd be totally lost without facebook. It's a great way to keep up with family & friends (especially those far away), see pictures and events in their lives, etc. For the most part, I can control what I see in my newsfeed by "unfollowing" a certain friend's posts. I do this a lot at election time.

I'm on Facebook. I'm involved in dog groups, my work industry, and of course, QVC.
I enjoy watching Lee Asher's dog videos (The Asher House).

@San Antonio Gal I am as well. I stay away from all the political bs. I am on groups of many handbags brands, QVC, HSN, Homeworx candles, different boutiques and I love it. There is nothing mean or nasty on them. (well sometimes on QVC Hsn forums.)

I'm with you. I check FB once a day for things from friends and 2 groups I'm in.
I'm so tired of rabid, nasty, uninformed political supporters. I'm sick of political propaganda and lies on social media that I quit reading comments from most. I follow my favorites but that's it.
I was always an optimist until 2016. Some people were always cruel, greedy, selfish, and evil but it's like they came out of the woodwork. I often said I'm glad to be as old as I am so I won't have to see our country ruined.
