@pitdak

@QueenDanceALot @Mmsfoxxie, well I read the transcript.  I am always interested in what people that have no epidemiology or infectious disease experience have to say.  Well, he was dead wrong about this "the 1.7% fatality rate is going to fall".

Well, I don't know where he got the 1.7%, early on they were saying 2%.  And that was when we had no deaths yet reported in the US, so he can't say it was specifically for the US.

But at any rate, as of today the World Health Organization increased the fatality rate of COVID-19 to 3.4% globally.

Seems we have quite a high fatality rate occurring in Northern Italy & quite a few deaths in Iran.  Reason to panic?  No.  But another reason why people just need to toally avoid these political sources and focus on what the experts are saying.

ETA: and evidently this doc is not an expert in infectious disease so he needs to stick with what he does know maybe?  Don't know who he is really.

@pitdakota  did I hear correctly this morning that the fatality rate for COVID-19 is higher than that of the flu?

Dr. Drew is not trying to be the expert in infectious disease. He is saying people need to totally avoid political sources and focus on what the experts are saying.

...Dr. Drew said “We are not overreacting; the press is overreacting, and it makes me furious. The press should not be reporting medical stories as though they know how to report it. If we have a pandemic, I won’t know how to tell that we’re actually having a pandemic because everything is an emergency."

"People that are infectious disease specialists, the CDC, the epidemiologist[s], need to take this very seriously. The press needs to shut up because you’re more likely to die of influenza right now.”

“When there’s a problem, Dr. Anthony Fauci of the CDC will tell you what’s going on, when you need to worry … that guy’s been on top of infectious disease for 30 years.  Look to him, not me, and not even VP, look at guys like Dr. Fauci whose responsibility is to contain these things.” Dr. Drew stated...

Here is WA state--ground zero Woman Frustrated---sounds like this virus has been amongst us for many weeks without us knowing anything about it---I'm talking 6 weeks at least-- geez- my hubs and DD have been sick in the last 2  months--who knows, maybe they had the virus; both were miserabe but not deathly sick.----I heard this a.m. that they may not test everyone UNLESS they show signs of actual symptoms--- AND then  there are 2 tests that each suspected case goes thru, not just one to confirm or not. I am treating this like a bad flu season----many people go about their days before the symptoms show and are contagious--how do we know? We all run the risk of catching something, from anyone, anywhere, at any time---it s one big CR*AP shoot------
