I caught Shawn's first "Getting Unready" show a couple of weeks ago and absolutely loved it so I've been watching it in the weeks since and find myself actually looking forward to it (nothing I ever thought I would say about a QVC show!) I not only love her "real talk" and engaging personality, but I truly am interested in the items she sells because they are personal to her and tells us why (and I ended up buying two of them on the spot.)

Sooo... when David announced a similar concept, I thought I would try it out, and it was a complete disaster.  He can't fill the time; using the same filler phrases over and over again like, "This comes together very nicely" or "This comes together really well" or "This is really really important" to the point where my partner and I started counting how many times he said the first phrase in one show - it was over 50.  And none of it really made sense.  More egregious somehow is the fact that he's just shilling products that he sells on his other shows; what does a Lock n' Lock pie container have to do with decompressing in one's dresing room?  And he doesn't seem to know a lot about these "products that are very personal to him" without asking his producer or consulting the cards, not to mention the fact that he can't keep up with the chat and just seems to panic and start reading names randomly once in a while.

While we've been "hate-watching" Down Time With David the last couple of weeks to have a chuckle over the nonsensical monologues, it's becoming tiresome at this point so I don't think we'll be doing it anymore.  I just don't get why this show exists, and I'm curious if anyone else has had similar thoughts other than the hilarious people who comment on Reddit about this show. Meanwhile, I'm dying to see Shawn's show on the main channel so more people can watch it!

Why?  Looks like trying a social media type platform.

Probably the direction in which they're going.

That's been my assumption also.  Beginning the move away from the broadcast sets with several people to the much more condensed,  small screen environment of social media viewing and shopping.   No furnished sets, no studio lighting.....

Makes some sense to begin it with two of the most popular personalities,  David and Shawn.

Who knows if it matters at this point,  and we'll never know how many pie carriers this show moved out the warehouse.

I understand that, but they have a social component to a lot of their shows.  This was a series that was sold as a personal show and I just don't see that with David's show I guess.  I'm happy to be the outlier, I just genuinely don't understand how the intended premise connects with the actual result.

Re: Down Time With David - Why?

It's sad. David has become very robotic in the past year or so - like he's phoning it in. It's too bad, because I was a David fan for years.

It may help you to vent on the Forums, but you should voice your opinion on the "Feedback" link at the bottom of this page. I have done so in the past. I don't know if it will do any good, but maybe management will be able to help bring the old David back to life. Who knows?

Re: Down Time With David - Why?

@Filmgrrrl   I know I'm not buying anything this year from any company, so I wouldn't watch either show.  As for why David's, how do you know his show was his idea?  Could be corporate's idea.  Whichever way, I'm out.  Nothing to do with what they're selling or why.

I am pleased to see Shawn found something to do that's likable to others.  I used to watch her but gave up when she began trying too hard.

@Filmgrrrl   I'm sure there are just as many people who don't enjoy Shawn's show.  Just because you don't enjoy David's show, doesn't mean other people don't.  I believe David has a strong following.

@Filmgrrrl

Why?

Why not.

Watching David over several weeks for a chuckle ( who actually chuckles?) what did you expect?? A change ?

It is what it is. I cannot imagine spending weeks watching a show I found so much to criticize.
