Former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfield has died at the age of 88.

 

Donald Rumsfeld, a forceful U.S. defense secretary has died at age 88, his family said in a statement on Wednesday.

 

"It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Donald Rumsfeld, an American statesman and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather," the statement said. "At 88, he was surrounded by family in his beloved Taos, New Mexico."

I heard his resume’ on the news last night. He had a very long career starting at age 30 when he was elected to congress. He served our country in many different capacities. I think history will remember his strength during some of the most difficult times in our history. I know his jobs had to be very difficult. He was a man of strong faith, so I am sure that helped see him through.

It's already been written. Not kind is an understatement. Smart, dedicated, intense man, but deeply flawed like us all. Except we don't have the power he did.

I know someone who worked directly for him.

It will be interesting to see how much longer this thread is up before it’s poofed. So many comments are already inaccurate and negative…so let’s see if the positive, respectful comments are allowed as well. Dancing on anyones’s grave is always tempting fate.

@lovesrecess, it's not dancing on someone's grave to consider a person's total history. No one is insulting the man but rather saying what all the obits have included.
