Just got back from grocery shopping; no dogs but a very rude, grumpy old man who made sure everyone knew he felt inconvenienced. Lol

I must admit that I'm shocked at what a different experience grocery shopping has become since I've retired.

I'm no longer exhausted after a day's work and just wanting everyone to MOVE so I can get home and collapse. I shop in the early mid afternoon when the aisles are mostly empty, and if something or someone delays me I don't care, because I'm not tired and have nowhere to be on a schedule.

Makes such a difference. I let people and cars go ahead of me. I don't care (much, anyway) if I miss a light.

But I still don't like pocket dogs in the grocery store ;-)

Maybe I just don't live in that kind of place.

No, I'm pretty certain I don't live in that kind of place.

They're very popular, but the latest is to carry them in a backpack.

@QueenDanceALot

lol, I just never see this where I live.

Most dogs I see are on a leash.  Once in a blue moon I'll see an older lady with one in her bag, but I don't think it's any sort of fashion statement.

I see big dogs at Pet Smart and expect that. Quite a few of the Stores Meant For Pets allow pets in them and that makes sense.

What I see and am referring to are the little toy breeds dressed in clothes, have their nails painted, maybe have special hair coloring, bejeweled and decorated being carried in the mall, salons, restaurants:

*under the arm like a purse

*Popping out of a purse

*eating off the table from a plate with the paws on the table

*sitting on the laps during the meal

*sticking out of a backpack

Have the image? These are NOT service dogs but they're all over the place. There is one woman who, for many years, I would see at Walmart riding in the scooter with one in the basket and one on her lap. They are not service dogs, they are "MY SWEETIES AND THEY GO EVERYWHERE WITH ME!". Words she shouted at an employee who told her they could not be in the store and definitely NOT eating in the basket as she tooled around. I didn't see her after that.

The point being, any and every dog does not need to be allowed anywhere and everywhere their owner wants to take them, just because they want to take them and for no other reason.

@Moonchilde

Paris Hilton started that several years ago.  I remember all the photos of her and various little dogs in her tote bag.

Dogs as a fashion accessory Smiley Mad

@Noel7, I had been thinking last night - Paris Hilton did indeed start the whole thing of pocket dogs that I can take anywhere because I want to and don't you dare tell me I can't, I'm SPECIAL and you "need to" accommodate meeee or I'll make a big stink and make so sooooooo sorry!

So whether they know it or not, most of these women toting Boopsie around in their totes and demanding their dog's presence EVERYWHERE are behaving exactly like a woman everyone "loves to hate", complete with entitled temper tantrums when crossed.

@Moonchilde

Yep, she's the culprit.

I see photos of it all the time, in magazines, on Instagram, etc.

Even more popular are dogs in clothes, outfits, usually the smaller dogs, many in tutus, I kid you not.  The dogs don't seem to mind, but then again, most of them seem to like attention, meaning the dogs.

Re: Dogs in the grocery store

Isn't there a rich Housewife who was on one of the Housewives shows (married to a Prince or something?) who toted her little hairless dog around wherever she went?

I think she loved her dog, but I felt for the little guy, thinking maybe he really didn't want to be hauled around in her purse all the time.

But maybe he did.

This may have been said, but rather a dog than a poopy pants kid sitting in the cart, or running all over screaming,

Re: Dogs in the grocery store

I find it odd that so many people love dogs, but not dogs as dogs.  They think of them as humans, and liking things that humans like.  I think we need to start a new movement: LET DOGS BE DOGS!  Don't take them to the store; let them sleep on the sofa.  Don't put clothes on them; they are dogs and deserve their dignity.

Make them mind.  They are pack animals and they crave leadership.

Love them for the DOGS they are!
