Re: Do you save magazines or toss them after youn read them?

I forward some of mine to one son---ie smithsonian and nat'l geo. the others go into the recycling can.The other son likes the sports mags and papers mr henny receives.I remember as a child we kept the national geographic magazines. We used them for reports in school.

Re: Do you save magazines or toss them after youn read them?

No one here seems to want the Nat Geo magazines so we have begun throwing them out. The golf magazines go to a fellow golfer, not that they will help him.

Those are the only ones we get. However, those of you who are throwing out your magazines, please collect and donate them!! Nursing homes/rehab centers/assisted living/senior apartments have a need for current magazines. It was my experience with mom's facility was that the inventory of magazines was old and tired. I mean 5 years and older. Magazines with lots of pictures and not a lot of reading involved are always appreciated in dementia/Alzheimer facilities. Magazines geared towards men are few and far between and there are male residents. Hunting, golf, woodworking.

Magazines geared towards animals-Cat Fancy, Dog Fancy-were devoured by both male and female residents. The HGTV magazine and even the Food Network magazines were enjoyed.

Please don't just toss them in the recycling can. Find a new home for them.

I take them to one of the boxes where they are then recycled.

I tear out any pages with recipes, etc. that I might want.

I used to save them, but finally tossed what I had saved. Now I get them on my Kindle. Only 40 cents a copy instead of $$$.

I read my subscriptions on my iPad now, they update into the Newsstand app. But for the hard-copy magazines we get, I save them and add them to whichever care package we're sending that month to people we know who are deployed.

I have an elderly friend who lives in an apartment. She loves my leftover magazines and reads them and then passes them on to the other ladies. They seem to get excited about them.

My uncle used to take them to my aunt's nursing home. You probably need to ask first if they want them.

I generally take a few to the laundry when we are camping...some to the VA lobby when DH has an appointment. Recently took some to the courthouse when I had jury duty and left them there for someone else to enjoy.

I usually read mine when I'm at the laundramat and then leave them there. DH puts his in the campground rec hall for any of the guys - he gets things like Trailer Life, Road & Track and Motor trend. We also get Reminisce and Pittsburgh Magazine that he puts in the rec hall - People appreciate the Pittsburgh mag because it highlights local places to see and things to do.

read then either recycle or spouse takes them to the office

In my younger days I would keep an entire year then toss, now info is at our fingertips no need.
