People used to say they slept in theirs.
I guess so!

I owned a lot of different VW styles but I'm happy to say I never owned that kind.

That would scare me. I've never driven one or was in one as a passenger. Sure did see a lot of them though.

Would I have seen them at Woodstock in August of '69?

Oh my. Were you there, @hckynut?

My cousin and her new husband bought one in the early 70's, I think. I was stolen a couple of days after they got it and they hadn't insured it yet. They were sick, to say the least.

@hckynut. Ha! No, I was the of the Woodstock era. Parents were the era before that. They needed a cheap car that could fit 4 kids.

No kids for me in '69, no kids in 2017, but we do have 8 furry ones running our place. Maybe your folks saw Glenn Miller Band back in their day. I did, but was still a kid at the time. Oh how the music scales have changed.

@hckynut. Don't know if they ever saw Glenn Miller Band, but they definitely had the albums.

People didn't live in VW buses in the 60's so much in Pittsburgh - way too cold.I believe a lot of things that were more uniquely California back then were for some reason made to seem like everyone under 30 all across the country was doing it. We did have one friend who got one on his way home from Viet Nam - & I think he bought it in Calif.and then dtrove it home. Anyway it was all painted etc, but he didn't live in it - he lived with his parents. We called it the love bus & would take it to football games etc. & occasionally sleep in it in the summer .
