Re: Do you have a safe driving tip to share?

So basic but so often ignored...

Use your turn signals.

When you turn and when you make a lane change.  Not as you are making the turn. Do it before you begin the turn.

Other drivers cannot read your mind.

If you see a ball rolling in street, stop. There often is a child chasing it.

Always drive with your lights on if they don't come on automatically.

It keeps people from accidently "looking through you", especially when the shadows are long.

When waiting to make a left turn, never wait with your tires turned, if someone behind you rear ends you, your vehicle will be pushed into the oncoming traffic, also, please put down your phone, that call can wait!!!!

Re: Do you have a safe driving tip to share?

When you are waiting to turn left across traffic that is coming from the opposite direction, keep your wheels straight, NOT turned.

If someone comes behind you and rear ends you, you will go straight ahead.  But if your wheels are turned in the direction you are planning to go, and you get rear ended, you will be pushed into the path of opposing traffic.

Re: Do you have a safe driving tip to share?

Through the windshield of the car in front of you, observe the brake lights of the car in front of him

When you pull up behind someone stopped, stay far enough back that you can see his tires touch the ground.  If you can see the tires touching the ground, you have enough room to go around if necessary.

If your windshield wipers are on, your headlights need to be, too.  That's not just advice, it's the law.

Strive for respect instead of attention. It lasts longer.

Don't drive with a loose cat in the car.

Wear pants when you drive.

When following someone with out of state plates, be extra cautious as well as courteous.

Oftentimes, they will be unfamiliar with the area, may slow down a lot to look at road signs, and may make quick turns with little or no signals as they don't really know where they are or where they are going.

We have an attraction in the area that draws a lot of out of state people in the summer and there are a few intersections where people not from here, may run the stop sign thinking they have the right of way (it's an odd set up), and I always try to give them a break when they cut me off at that intersection, as I understand it is confusing.

@Sooner I am Curious how you learned that pants were necessary when driving.
