i will give you an example. dockside market had boneless chicken breast on sale for .99 a pound . its very rare to find it that cheap. there selling it in 10 pound bags. so i bought 2 bags so i now have 20 pounds. they ran that sale last october . the few bags i had left i had dated 10 28 2019. i separated into 24 bags. i dont mind cleaning chicken. my wife  allways tells me thank god you dont mind doing that. she finds it nasty.

Both for me.  I would rather get a bargain but depends.

For household staples and beauty/ personal items I buy when on a really good sale, but I have learned not to buy "deep"- usually just one and not more than two of an item. I am not a fan of "stockpiling". I plan my weekly menu based on what's on sale.

For a large purchase, like your fridge,  I start shopping for a deal on what I want as soon as I need to. Shopped for over a year until I found exactly the pre-owned car I wanted at the price I wanted to pay. Also played one store against another for the best deal on a dishwasher.

Sometimes we are just not that lucky. My fridge quit with no warning. So did my HVAC: no A/C on the hottest week of the year. I still shopped around for those big ticket items, but had to do so quickly.

I do not buy anything just because it's on sale at a great price. I need to have a use and a place for it NOW, or I don't bite. Not tempted. Been there, done that. Too much wasted money and clutter.

I was driving my 1987 Honda Accord for 29 years. - I only had 189,000 miles. I was hoping it would last because I don't drive much anymore. A few years ago, my car got HOT - and I was close to the Honda Dealer - and was able to bring it in. After a few days, they weren't able to repair it. I then emailed an ex-roomie who's a salesman at Lexus (which is on the same street as Honda). He told me not to fix the car as it was too old. He then came to my house (15 minutes away) - driving a white Honda Civic. He said that was the leased car he got for me - but my other car was also white so I turned it down. He then said there's a grey Honda Civic with 34,800 miles (also leased). I waited at the Lexus dealership and he drove back in the grey Civic. I bought it immediately. I wasn't used to all the lights coming on and the electric windows/doors --- I'm still adjusting. But it's a great car!!!!
