I just did this today.
Every month I take my pile and double check the bank and myself for where my money went and how they posted it.
I find hotels don't always trip my alerts and I've been mischarged several times with other people's fees or double charges. Always check when you travel!

I check online every day to make sure I recognize all of the charges but I don't check against my receipts.

I don't use a credit card but years ago when I did I always made sure that the charges were legit.

With about 15 charges a billing cycle, it's an easy thing for me to do. I find my Amazon purchases the most difficult because some items are fulfilled by other businesses. I no longer do EZ pay which makes tracking QVC purchases easier.

@scatcat ,had a friend who found a Walmart charge $50 higher than their slip. They caught cashiers completing transactions requesting cash back on cards. When my friend discovered thisdiscrepency he went to Walmart and they were able to pull up video tapes of the checkout and confirm this is what the cashier had done. They promptly credited his account.

Not only do I match all cc receipts, I keep the receipts also. Can be a bit bulky but worth it to me. ![]()

I always reconcile my credit card statement transactions and credits and verify all charges are correct and any credits I am due have been posted.
I keep most receipts for a few months as well.

After reading your post it hit me that scammers are everywhere, stealing from everyone.
Thanks for the reminder

I do and I check my bank balance every day as well. I don't use credit card much and mostly my bank card.
i did have some issues not long ago with someone trying to use my Kohls card and tried to change my mailing address as well. I had gotten notices from Kohls saying your order did not go through. Issued me a new card and also changed my password on my account. Made it hard that I can't even remember it without looking.
A person has to keep their eye on everything. I never reply to an email but I do call places direct. I used the phone listed on my Kohls card just to be sure.
Too bad these so called clever people don't put their talents to better use.

Hubby does it in our household he is the CFO. I despise any type of accounting. He reconciles our CC statements with receipts and has found a couple of errors at gas stations.
