Re: Do You Use a Rating System for your Books?

My DH would say that I have a rating system for just about everything! As in, "I would give that bagel a 7", "that coffee was a 10, dontcha think?", etc., etc. And in my now defunct book club, we would rate each book and the host would come up with a group rating. So, yes, I tend to do this in my mind A LOT, and have experience doing it within a group. I don't physically write down a rating for each book I read, but if a friend asks about a title I'm reading I can easily and quickly give it a numeric rating between 0-10, 10 being excellent.Smiley Happy

Re: Do You Use a Rating System for your Books?

No, why would I? Reading is entertainment for me, so I don't speed read (as someone on a book thread or other thread suggested) or keep records on any kind...aside from posting here. A rating system? I've already read a book so I don't need to rate it for myself. And any rating I gave a book would be subjective and should be meaningless to anyone else. There are many books I have NOT read that I would have read if others' opinions mattered to me.

Esmeralda--Someone I know IRL, who reads quite a bit, has said that she speed reads, or even sometimes skips through certain passages of books. Which I completely do not understand. I don't consider skimming, or speeding through a book reading.

Re: Do You Use a Rating System for your Books?

Yes. I started late, but have kept records for 4 years using name, author, book or Kindle, a brief description and a number rating (1-5) with comments. It is a good way to remember what I have read since I read a lot. I also wish I had started young, but doubt I would have.

Re: Do You Use a Rating System for your Books?

cookie-I keep a list of TBR (to be read) books in my phone. If I'm reading something else and a new book is mentioned that I'm interested in I can easily jot it down (so-to-speak) in my phone. I also keep a list of what I've read. Partially b/c I was in a book club for a bunch of years and we referred to these lists a lot. Also, I find that if you read a lot, sometimes you forget, at least initially, if you've read something or not.

gimama ~ My list includes unread book/kindle as well! I mark them when I finish reading. I keep the whole list, which now has over 800 books since I started. I have only read a little more than half of that though. Glad there are at least two of us.

Ditto, cookie. {#emotions_dlg.biggrin} Nice to know I'm not alone in my list-keeping! And btw, I LOVED reading that you can look at your list and see that you have 800 books on it. Seems like a nice little accomplishment. A personal one, but an accomplishment nonetheless. I can look back in my phone a few years OR in a little journal I kept years before the phone and see how many books I was reading, on average, in any given year. Interesting to look and see how certain life events or other stuff (having children, for instance) affected how much I was reading.

I use Goodreads and rate all the books I've read - I don't know why keeping a list is important but I know I enjoy it!

I have to keep those to sites in mind because I'm always looking for good audiobooks.

I'm so happy to see there are so many people here with lists
