Re: Do You Use GPS?

[ Edited ]

I don't 100% trust GPS.  it has no brain.

We once were in Cape May, NJ and needed a new small table top TV.  I don't remember all the details, but our GPS tried to take us to LEWES, DE on the ferry to get to a store that had one in stock.

My husband was driving and I had to really scream at him to stop.  He was in the driveway at the ferry terminal.

Men will go anywhere the GPS tells them to.  Even if it is a stupid idea.

I still laugh about that one.

If so, you might want to rethink that.

I'd  love to know the outcome of this little adventure.  Probably divorce if they didn't go over the edge and lived.

Lol.   Yeah, that's a safe bet.

I was curious, and had to dig up the truth about the picture. It's actually quite interesting. The ad was photoshopped when it was originally published. The Airstream was later photoshopped onto it as an internet prank. Here's the original ad.

In December 2020, a Twitter user posted that he emailed the company asking about the original, and here's the response. I redacted the last name of the employee mentioned.

"Hi Mike, Thank you for your inquiry! We love that picture and have a few of them in various offices here at Warn. This picture was taken in the Tillamook Forest in Oregon. They backed the vehicle onto this shelf road for the photo, however if you look close you can see that the road was actually wider and was modified to make it look narrower (early photoshop job). The driver was one of our long time employees, Lynn ******. Unfortunately I don’t know the when part of this but I do know that it had been done prior to my arrival 26 years ago!
Hope this helps!"

@dancingwoman.  I was first over hwy 550 as a child before it was paved and "improved".  I made the whole trip on the floorboard, scared to look out the window.  It's a boulevard now compared to then.  I've driven from Ouray to Durango several times.

I do use GPS aka Google maps...BUT I also love actual paper maps and will look at a map prior to going to any new destination. I also have a default to stick to major highways. Ask me how I know. Lol.

@dancingwoman. I'm envious.  Going to Silverton?  Nice and cool up there.
