IMDb Top 10: Paul Newman

Even though his mustache isn't pencil thin it still looks good on Paul Newman.Smiley Happy

The "Pencil Mustache" was quite popular in the 1930s into the early 1940s.  See Gable, Price, Coleman and Robert Donat at examples:

@shoekitty  Take it up with Y (Yahoo) Entertainment where the story was posted. No names were mentioned, but I don't doubt that people talk. As we've all seen, this is not 'old' Hollywood, when 'stars' were held to a certain standard of mandated behavior. Essentially, nothing was said that struck me as news. There are also reports out there now that he's concerned his relationship impacts his image as an actor. Who knows. I hesitated to even post the item. At this point, the Oscars are getting to be old news.

@stevieb   that's true. I heard also the backlash is even in his fan base.  They were disappointed and a little angry at his behavior. This was in NYT today. Either slow day for news At NYT, or this is gaining stream. You know, perhaps some good will come of all this. A really talented and gifted young actor will take a look at his life and behavior, get some PR, personal help and just try to work on their craft.  It is to hard to get anywhere as quick as he has in Hollywood to throw it away...but some do...

@shoekitty  I can tell you that as a fan he ticked me off. Shot himself in the foot and for no reason! I think he's a truly gifted actor and he doesn't need to make an arse of himself trying to convince anyone of his worthiness. All he needs to do is let his work speak for itself.

@They CallMe MRWILKES   they look like Snidley Whiplash!  Or that schister in Lil Abner, what was his name? The one with the hat and zoot suit?  lol lol  paul Newmans mustache is different, it is filled out. I think black or very dark stashes that are pencil thin are just too slimeylooking. lol.  I usually like mustaches, some beards or go tees.

He needs a better publicist to help navigate his interviews.  Just because a person has an opinion doesn't mean they have to say it out loud.  More people, young and old, should learn to keep their mouths shut at certain times.

@lgfan

I agree totally ... but he was doing a one-on-one interview with Matthew McConaughey (sp?) ... so perhaps he was trying to be witty.

Who knows?

I got the distinct feeling that Matthew suspected this guy was shooting himself in the foot .... but then his show / interview would get publicity, so that's a good thing, right?

Of course, I could just be reading too much into it, but that was my first reaction.

There are a number of websites that report anonymous voting.

It's been going on for years.  Voters tell the reporter who they voted for and why.  Fascinating insights into voter thought processes.

And yes, it is not always based upon the specific nominated performance.  Surprise!

@They CallMe MRWILKES

I think some viewers watch the Oscars and think more in terms of (for instance) their best (favorite) actress, and not the best performance by an actress that year.

Hope that makes sense.  Woman LOL
